ALUMINA-ON-ALUMINA TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery-American Volume, 2005
Ceramic-on-ceramic couplings are attractive alternative bearing surfaces that have been reported to eliminate or reduce problems related to polyethylene wear debris. Disappointing experiences with alumina ceramic bearings in the past have led to many improvements in the manufacture and design of ceramic implants. The purpose of the present study was to

Individual Alumina Nanotubes

Angewandte Chemie, 2001
Anodization of aluminum with H2 SO4 on an Si substrate results in the formation of individual alumina nanotubes (ANTs). The picture shows an ANT with a length of 650 nm and internal and external diameters of 12 and 35 nm, respectively. Detailed studies by transmission electron microscopy revealed that the ANTs are completely detached cells of the ...

Engineering aspect of alumina on alumina hip prosthesis

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine, 2007
Alumina on the alumina sliding system in a total hip replacement is recognized as a breakthrough in orthopaedic surgery. Advantages and problems with this material are explained and discussed in the light of 36 years of clinical application. Laboratory data as well as clinical ones are summarized.

Hydraulic Alumina Binder for Extrusion of Alumina Ceramics

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2007
The present work describes the effect of hydraulic alumina (HA) as a new inorganic binder on extrusion of alumina ceramics. The addition of a small amount of HA imparted significant flowability and rigidity to the extruded alumina.

Hydrogen sulfide adsorption on alumina, modified alumina, and molybdenum trioxide/alumina

The Journal of Physical Chemistry, 1986
A systematic investigation of H/sub 2/S adsorption on Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, modified Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, and MoO/sub 3//Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ catalysts was carried out by using temperature-programmed desorption techniques, coupled with IR and XPS. SiO/sub 2/-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and AlPO/sub 4/ were also studied for comparison. It was found that Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/

Constrained Densification Kinetics of Alumina/Borosilicate Glass + Alumina/Alumina Sandwich Structure

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2002
The densification kinetics and mechanism of a low‐temperature cofirable borosilicate glass (BSG) + alumina during the constrained sintering of a sandwich structure of alumina/(BSG + alumina)/alumina has been studied. The densification kinetics becomes slower when the BSG + alumina tape is constrained during firing.
