New Process for Selective Additive Metallization of Alumina Ceramic Substrates
IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology, 2019A newly developed laser-assisted process is presented, by which a selective additive metallization of injection-molded alumina ceramic substrates without additional additives is enabled.

Joining alumina/zirconia ceramics
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2003Dense compacts consisting of 40 vol.% Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-60 vol.% 3 mol% Y{sub 2}O{sub 3}-stabilized ZrO{sub 2} (YSZ) were joined with an interlayer of 50 vol.% Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-50 vol.% YSZ. A joint was also made at 1200 {sup o}C with an interlayer that was 50 vol.% Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}-50 vol.% ZrO{sub 2}, in which the average particle size of both ...

1974
It was found that β-aluminas could be prepared from a technical grade of α-Al2O3 and sodium or potassium carbonates only in the presence of V2O5 Sodium and potassium carbonates and alumina produced mixtures of β-alumina and alkali aluminate. Lithium carbonate failed to produce any β-alumina even in the presence of V2O5.

Ion modification of alumina ceramics
Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B: Beam Interactions with Materials and Atoms, 2020Abstract The patterns of depth microhardness, nanohardness and modulus of elasticity of alumina ceramics were investigated by microindentation and nanoindentation methods after treatment with a beam of ions of the composition: carbon ions (C+, Cn+) and protons (H+) in a ratio of 85%/15%. The accelerating voltage was 180 keV.

Retrieval analysis of squeaking alumina ceramic-on-ceramic bearings
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2011This multicentre study analysed 12 alumina ceramic-on-ceramic components retrieved from squeaking total hip replacements after a mean of 23 months in situ (11 to 61). The rates and patterns of wear seen in these squeaking hips were compared with those seen in matched controls using retrieval data from 33 ‘silent’ hip replacements with similar ceramic ...

Alumina ceramics fabricated from bimodal alumina with additives
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2006Abstract Superfine α-Al 2 O 3 synthesized by a precipitation method and commercial α-Al 2 O 3 were used to prepare bimodal alumina. Densification of bimodal alumina with MgO, SiO 2 as additives was investigated from 1400 to 1550 °C. The addition of superfine α-Al 2 O 3 is not effective to enhance the densification at the sintering temperature of ...

Bonding of alumina ceramics with nanoscaled alumina powders
Nanostructured Materials, 1996Abstract Nanoscaled Al2O3-powders can be employed for diffusion bonding of alumina ceramics. In order to accomplish bonding of the ceramics, Al2O3-nanopowder with a median particle size of 14 nm in diameter is sandwiched between two commercial microcrystalline corund discs, followed by uniaxially hot compressing of the assembly in vacuum at 80 MPa ...

Heat resistance of alumina ceramics
Refractories and Industrial Ceramics, 1999A method for evaluating the heat resistance of structural ceramics according to which the thermally stressed state is created by blowing a directed air flow into the tip of a notch in a heated prismatic specimen is presented. For this purpose a special complexly shaped notch is formed in order to provide free inflow of the air to its tip. The radius of
