Cyclic oxidation of cobalt-chromium-aluminum-yttrium and aluminide coatings on IN-100 and VIA alloys in high velocity gases [PDF]

open access: yes
Embedded-alumina-particle aluminide (EAPA) coated and CoCrAlY coated IN-100 and NASA-TRW-VIA specimens were cyclically oxidation tested in a high velocity (approximately Mach 1) gas flame at 1093 C (2000 F).

Ink‐Extrusion 3D Printing and Silicide Coating of HfNbTaTiZr Refractory High‐Entropy Alloy for Extreme Temperature Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 17, May 8, 2024.
This work demonstrates that an oxygen‐sensitive refractory high‐entropy alloy (RHEA) can achieve architecture freedom and good oxidation resistance by a series of simple processing steps: i) 3D ink‐extrusion printing, ii) interdiffusion‐sintering, and iii) silicide coating.

Tooling in Spark Plasma Sintering Technology: Design, Optimization, and Application

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 5, March 2024.
The review highlights all aspects of tooling in spark plasma sintering (SPS) technology starting from basic configuration to design adapted to the manufacturing of complex‐shaped parts. Modeling and optimization are essential issues in SPS tooling design. Upscaling and industrialization of SPS require multiple die tooling.

Cyclic Oxidation of Diffusion Aluminide Coatings

open access: yes, 2023
The diffusion aluminide coatings are used for high-temperature applications. Structural materials of particular components degrade during service due to fatigue, creep, oxidation, corrosion and erosion. The requirements of higher efficiency of modern industrial applications increase the development of new structural materials, technologies and ...

Influence of surface treatment on metal dusting resistance of welds

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 75, Issue 3, Page 371-385, March 2024.
Fe contaminations enhanced metal dusting pit formation on brushed welds of Ni‐based alloys. The best performance of the welds was achieved by grinding, this is attributed to the deformation of the sub‐surface zone. Additional protection by on‐site slurry aluminization was successfully demonstrated.

A New Al2O3‐Protected EB‐PVD TBC with Superior CMAS Resistance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 5, February 2, 2024.
This study introduces a novel microstructural design for yttria‐stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) to resist calcium‐magnesium‐aluminum‐silicate (CMAS) attack. It employs a drip coating method to create a thin nanoporous Al2O3 layer around YSZ columnar grains, enabling fast crystallization of molten CMAS close to the TBC surface.

Mechanical properties of coated titanium Beta-21S after exposure to air at 700 and 800 C [PDF]

open access: yes
Mechanical properties of Beta-21S (Ti-15Mo-3Al-2.7Nb-0.2Si, wt percent) with glass, aluminide, and glass-on-aluminide coatings less than 3-micron thick were studied. Coatings were deposited by sol-gel processing or electron-beam evaporation onto 4.5-mil (
