Winners and losers under hydroxide‐based ocean alkalinity enhancement in a Tasmanian plankton community

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract Ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) is an emerging carbon dioxide CO2 removal approach for climate change mitigation and can be implemented with various alkaline materials that convert dissolved CO2 into (bi)carbonates, enabling additional atmospheric CO2 removal. A key knowledge gap is how alkaline materials affect marine life.

Mid‐infrared detection and characterization of refractory inclusions in CM and CO chondrites: A non‐destructive approach for returned space samples

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 3, Page 544-569, March 2025.
Abstract Refractory inclusions (RIs) in chondrites are widely used as tracers of early solar system formation conditions. In the context of sample‐return missions, a non‐destructive and non‐invasive analytical tool that can rapidly detect and characterize RIs in space samples during their early phase of study is highly needed.

VIS‐to‐MIR reflectance and Raman spectroscopy of the CM2 NWA 12184 carbonaceous chondrite

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 3, Page 570-595, March 2025.
Abstract The spectral analysis of CM meteorites can help to constrain the mineralogical composition of their parent body, the C‐type asteroids. The CM2 NWA 12184 was spectrally examined employing seven complementary techniques at different spatial resolutions, including VIS‐to‐MIR reflectance and Raman spectroscopy.

Experimental simulations of space weathering on pentlandite

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 7, Page 1555-1572, July 2025.
Abstract Pentlandite (Fe, Ni)9S8 is an important accessory mineral on asteroidal surfaces. It has been identified in returned regolith samples from asteroids Itokawa, Ryugu, and Bennu. Currently, systematic studies to understand the response of this mineral phase under space weathering conditions are lacking.

Metallic messengers from the cosmos: Rare (Al,Cu)‐bearing meteorites from the Project Stardust collection

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 7, Page 1609-1620, July 2025.
Abstract We report the discovery of (Al,Cu)‐bearing metallic alloys in two micrometeorites found in the Project Stardust collection gathered from urban rooftop environments in Norway. Most of the alloys are the same as those found in the Khatyrka meteorite and other micrometeorites, though one has a composition that has not been reported previously ...
