Alveolar osteitis associated with mandibular third molar extractions

The incidence of alveolar osteitis can be reduced significantly by lavage of the oral cavity and the area around the lower third molar with an antiseptic mouthwash before extraction. Evaluation of mandibular third molar extractions provides indications of preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of alveolar osteitis.
