Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma metastatic to the brain

Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma (ARMS) has a predilection for the peripheral extremities, and brain metastases are rare, with only a few cases reported after the initial diagnosis. We present a 22-year-old male patient with a right orbital-ethmoidal ARMS who presented with a recurrence to the brain 1 year after the initial diagnosis.

Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma with del(13q14)

We report a case of disseminated alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, where chromosome analysis showed a deletion of chromosome 13(q14). This breakpoint is involved in the t(2;13)(q37;q14) previously reported in cases of rhabdomyosarcoma, but this is the first reported case in whom this deletion occurs without involvement of chromosome 2.

Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the lung in a child

The case of a 22-month-old boy with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the lung is presented. Brain metastasis and recurrence of the right pulmonary hilum and parietal pleura developed 6, 11, and 24 months (respectively) after tumor resection. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy were effective.

Results of computed tomographic scan showed apparent enlargement of the right inferior rectus muscle, and thyroid eye disease was suspected.

Alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma is an uncommon tumor occurring mostly in extremities of children and adolescents. This type of tumor located in the uterine cervix has not been reported previously. A case of pure alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma arising from the uterine cervix in a 45-year-old patient and having a very aggressive clinical course is described.
