Effect of exogenous melatonin in fruit postharvest, crosstalk with hormones, and defense mechanism for oxidative stress management

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 233-261, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Derived from tryptophan, melatonin (MT; N‐acetyl‐5‐methoxytryptamine) is a ubiquitous indoleamine that is widely distributed in species ranging from microorganisms to mammals. It has been associated to play vital roles in the human body like cardiac rhythms, immunological enhancement, and antioxidant activity.

Populus × canescens root suberization in reaction to osmotic and salt stress is limited to the developing younger root tip region

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 174, Issue 5, September/October 2022., 2022
Abstract Populus is a valuable and fast‐growing tree species commonly cultivated for economic and scientific purposes. But most of the poplar species are sensitive to drought and salt stress. Thus, we compared the physiological effects of osmotic stress (PEG8000) and salt treatment (NaCl) on poplar roots to identify potential strategies for future ...

Reproductive colonization of land by frogs: Embryos and larvae excrete urea to avoid ammonia toxicity

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 12, Issue 2, February 2022., 2022
Frogs have evolved terrestrial eggs many times, offering an excellent opportunity to assess traits that may facilitate aquatic‐to‐terrestrial transitions. Our results suggest the importance of physiological adaptations and physiological plasticity during early life stages, specifically the early onset of urea excretion, its upregulation under dry ...

Biodiversity and patents: Overview of plants and fungi covered by patents

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 2, Issue 5, Page 546-556, September 2020., 2020
Patents can be used as a measure of innovation and to illustrate the commercial potential of plant and fungal biodiversity. The proportion of plant species named in patents represents only 6.2% of plant species, whereas the proportion of fungi is likely less than 0.4%. Fungi clearly justify further research.

Carbonic Anhydrase Inhibitors. Part 551 Metal Complexes of 1,3,4‐Thiadiazole‐2‐Sulfonamide Derivatives: In Vitro Inhibition Studies With Carbonic Anhydrase Isozymes I, II and IV

open access: yesMetal-Based Drugs, Volume 5, Issue 2, Page 103-114, 1998., 1998
Coordination compounds of 5‐chloroacetamido‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole‐2‐sulfonamide (Hcaz) with V(IV), Cr(lll), Fe(ll), Co(ll), Ni(ll) and Cu(ll) have been prepared and characterized by standard procedures (spectroscopic, magnetic, EPR, thermogravimetric and conductimetric measurements).
