Innervation Drives Postembryonic Expansion of the Zebrafish Anterior Lateral Line System

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 1, January 2026.
A dramatic expansion of the anterior lateral line system occurs during zebrafish ontogeny, largely driven by the addition of superficial neuromasts. Here, we describe a new hybrid‐origin mechanism of neuromast addition and uncover a larval‐stage developmental switch to an innervation‐dependent phase of expansion.

Application of the augmented competing stimulus assessment to identify and establish competing self‐restraint items

open access: yesJournal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Volume 59, Issue 1, Winter 2026.
Abstract Automatically maintained self‐injurious behavior (SIB) sometimes co‐occurs with self‐restraint, a self‐limiting behavior that impedes SIB and can be maladaptive (e.g., hinders functional skills and movement). The presence of self‐restraint suggests SIB produces aversive consequences, which self‐restraint limits.

Inocybe alboaurantiaca (Inocybaceae), a new species from Asia

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January 2026.
A new Inocybe (Inocybaceae) species, Inocybe alboaurantiaca, is described and illustrated from Asia (Japan and Pakistan), based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses of the nrITS and nrLSU regions. Phylogenetically, the most closely related sequences belong to the current mainstream European concept of Inocybe fibrosa.

Defining substrate specificities of human RNA capping methyltransferases through quantitative assessment of independent yet cooperative activities

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Human RNA capping is critical for mRNA splicing, protection of RNA from 5′ exonucleases in the cytoplasm, and targeting to the ribosome. Human RNMT, CMTR1, and CMTR2 are RNA methyltransferases involved in the RNA capping process. They play a significant role in the proliferation and differentiation of embryonic stem cells and have been ...
