2011This chapter examines the geological development of the Orinoco and Amazon River basins. It analyzes the evolution of aquatic Amazonian ecosystems from the Late Cretaceous to the Quaternary period and provides and considers the potential impacts on the development of modern Amazonian fish faunas.

Forest Biological Resources in the Amazon Basin
2004The Amazon region holds the world’s largest area of tropical rain forest which was settled by the first humans during the Late Pleistocene. A strong anthropogenic impact began in the 1960s when large areas of the tropical forest were cleared.
