Ambient help

Proceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2011
In this paper we present Ambient Help, a system that supports opportunistic learning by providing automatic, context-sensitive learning resources while a user works. Multiple videos and textual help resources are presented ambiently on a secondary display. We define and examine a collection of design consideration for this type of interface.

Ambient Contracts.

Electron. Commun. Eur. Assoc. Softw. Sci. Technol., 2010
With current programming languages programmers have to manually keep track of device connectivity state changes while interacting with multiple partners in an ambient environment. This leads to complex code which is hard to evolve and maintain. We propose ambient contracts, a novel programming abstraction which tracks connectivity states in order to ...

Ambient functionality

Proceedings of the 2005 joint conference on Smart objects and ambient intelligence: innovative context-aware services: usages and technologies, 2005
The motivation for this session is based on a vision of a future where there will be a number, however large, of processors integrated into artefacts in our environment. These objects will have an identity, an IP address of their own, or at least a tag attached to them, so that they can be activated and enabled to receive and transmit RF signals ...

Ambient video

Proceedings of the 2006 ACM SIGCHI international conference on Advances in computer entertainment technology, 2006
I propose to demonstrate my video productions, and discuss their style, purpose, and creative direction. I intend to show excerpts from my video works "Rockface" and "Streaming Video". These works are part of my overall research program. My research has led me to predict the emergence of a form of popular televisual art I call "Ambient Video".

Into Ambient Intelligence

2006
Ambient intelligence (AmI) refers to electronic environments that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of people. The paradigm relates to a vision for digital systems in the years 2010-2020 that was developed in the late 1990s, and which has become quite influential in the development of new concepts for information processing, combining ...

Ambient Explanations: Ambient Intelligence and Explainable AI

2019
With renewed prominence of Explainable AI (XAI), many areas are revisiting early work on Explainability. Within the broader field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Ambient Intelligence (AmI) has an advantage in the development of transparent and ethical systems because such work has long been an integral part of research, development and operations in ...

Ambient Rabbits Likeability of Embodied Ambient Displays

2009
This paper discusses the possibility of using embodied Ambient Displays for presenting information in a public setting. For embodying an Ambient Display, a Nabaztag rabbit was used, the information displayed was a weather forecast. Throughout four weeks of alternating traditional visual Ambient Displays and Nabaztag testing, differences and ...

Ambient intelligence

ACM Computing Surveys, 2011
In this article we survey ambient intelligence (AmI), including its applications, some of the technologies it uses, and its social and ethical implications. The applications include AmI at home, care of the elderly, healthcare, commerce, and business, recommender systems, museums and tourist scenarios, and group decision making.

Ambient Volume Scattering

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2013
We present ambient scattering as a preintegration method for scattering on mesoscopic scales in direct volume rendering. Far-range scattering effects usually provide negligible contributions to a given location due to the exponential attenuation with increasing distance.
