Computational Analysis of a GST‐Based Long‐Wave Infrared Microring Resonator on a ZnSe Platform as a Photonic Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
A Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST)‐based microring resonator is designed and simulated on a ZnSe‐platform that operates in the long‐wave infrared (LWIR) wavelength of 8 μm. The structure demonstrates strong power confinement and high Q‐factor. GST resonator is used for gas and biosensing applications.

Vision‐Assisted Avocado Harvesting with Aerial Bimanual Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work outlines the design and implementation of a bimanual aerial robot that employs visual perception and learning to detect, reach, and harvest avocados. A new gripper and fixer arm assembly is used to harvest avocados, while visual perception enables the detection of avocados and estimation of their position and orientation for determining ...

Boothless audiometry: Ambient noise considerations

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2023
Ambient noise in the test environment will impact signal detection during hearing threshold measurements due to psychoacoustic masking effects. Technical standards specify the maximum permissible ambient noise levels (MPANLs) for use during audiometric testing.

Ambient-Sea-Noise Model

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1963
A model of ambient sea noise is developed under the assumption of a surface distribution of noise sources. Volume absorption and the effects of refraction and reflection over long-range paths are included. The derived directional noise field is expressed as a function of vertical arrival angle, with the parameters being velocity profile, surface ...

Ambient noise data logger buoy

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 1990
A buoy for measuring wind speed and the ambient noise sound pressure level from 10 to 1500 Hz with 1-Hz resolution is described. The measurement buoy was deployed in a remote fjord in southeastern Alaska from October to December, 1989. The results from the data collected show that, for a wind speed of 5 kn, the measured ambient noise level at 900 Hz ...

Remote sensing with ambient noise

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2009, 2009
Ambient noise is ubiquitous in the ocean. For many years, this noise has been considered the unwanted part of the acoustic signal. However, recent studies have shown that the noise itself contains valuable information about properties of the ocean, Earth, and atmosphere. For example, distant storms have been observed using measurements of low-frequency
