Ambient Noise Level and Site Characterization in Northern Egypt
Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2019The characterization of the background seismic noise in any seismological network is an essential task for checking the performance of the recording stations. Hence, a funded project from Science and Technology Funding Authority (STDF) was awarded by the National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) in 2017 to detect the recording ...

Comparing two approaches for outdoor ambient noise level measurements
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2019In ambient community noise measurements, two possible setups involve an elevated microphone or on the ground [ANSI 12.9-2005/Part 2]. This study compares the elevated and ground-based microphone measurement approaches, particularly for low-frequency wind noise contamination.

Ambient Noise Levels in the Continental United States
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2004We present a new approach to characterize the background seismic noise across the continental United States. Using this approach, power spectral den- sity (PSD) is estimated at broadband seismic stations for frequencies ranging from 0.01 to 16 Hz.

Ambient noise levels and characterization in Aegean region, Turkey
Journal of Seismology, 2017We assessed the ambient noise level in the Aegean region and analyzed its diurnal variation and its relation to the earthquake detection capability of the Aegean Region Seismic Network (ARSN). We prepared probability density functions (PDFs) for 19 broadband stations in the Aegean region operated by the Earth and Marine Sciences Institute (EMSI) of the

Ambient noise levels off the coast of Northern Labrador
2022Ambient sound data was recorded over a 6 month period from October 2017 to March 2018 and a 15 month period from July 2019 to September 2020. This data was recorded from a mooring at the northeastern edge of Saglek Bank off Northern Labrador, where the water depth is 500 meters.

Ambient-Noise Levels in Selected Shallow Water off Miami, Florida
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1967Noise-level measurements have been made in shallow water off Miami, Florida. Areas containing snapping shrimp have been calibrated for noise levels in excess of 30 dB over Sea State 1 up to 50 kHz. Spectral components were observed to 150 kHz with lower frequencies extending down to 4 kHz.

Blue whale call intensity varies with ambient noise level
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2001Blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus) vary the intensity of their sound production level in response to varying ambient noise levels. Blue whales produce tonal, type B calls with a fundamental frequency of 16 Hz, and a strong third harmonic at 48 Hz. These calls, along with other low-frequency baleen whale vocalizations, ambient sea noise, and shipping ...

Wind-generated, low-frequency, ambient-noise source levels revisited
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1999A central issue concerning high-resolution array processing is the limit due to natural sources of ambient noise and how can it be calculated. This question has been addressed by several investigators [W. Carey et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 84, 201 (1988); D. Kewley et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 88, 1894–1902 (1990); F.

Historical ambient noise levels in a topographically isolated basin
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008During the late 1970s and early 1980s, careful measurements of ambient noise were made in the Tongue of the Ocean (TOTO) in the Bahamas. The measurements were made using a vertical array of five omni-directional hydrophones moored in 2200 m water depth with an average hydrophone depth of 122 m.

Periodic Variations in Low-Frequency Underwater Ambient Noise Levels
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1960Variations in underwater ambient noise spectra, from 20 to 1000 cps, were studied by use of a statistical filter technique to examine the spectral density functions in the range from 1 to 80 cycles per week. At frequencies below 100 cps narrow band components at 7 and 14 cycles per week were observed in the spectral density function.
