Ambient seismic noise tomography at Ekofisk

Geophysics, 2015
ABSTRACT We have studied an approximately 40-hr recording from the Life of Field Seismic array installed over Ekofisk field to assess whether the recorded ambient seismic energy was suitable for passive seismic surface-wave interferometry. Passive seismic interferometry aims to retrieve virtual seismic sources by crosscorrelation.

Regional Ambient Noise Tomography in the Eastern Alps of Europe

Pure and Applied Geophysics, 2016
We present results from ambient noise tomography applied to temporary seismological stations in the easternmost part of the Alps and their transition to the adjacent tectonic provinces (Vienna Basin, Bohemian Massif, Southern Alps, Dinarides). By turning each station into a virtual source, we recover surface waves in the frequency range between 0.1 and

Ambient Noise Tomography in Central‐South Mongolia

Chinese Journal of Geophysics, 2015
AbstractRelying on cooperation projects in Mongolia, “Observation and modeling on the geomagnetic, gravitational field and deep structure in the Far East Areas”, we got dense seismic array data in the area for the first time. By using the vertical component of continuous data, recorded by 69 broadband seismic stations from Aug. 2011 to Jul.

Investigation of Cascadia segmentation with ambient noise tomography

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2011
Abstract Along strike variation in the characteristics of subduction zone processes has been observed throughout the Cascadia Subduction Zone through magmas analysis of arc magmas and the distribution of seismicity. We investigate links between these observations and subduction zone structure by imaging three-dimensional lithospheric scale shear ...

Ambient noise tomography of Eyjafjallajökull volcano, Iceland

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2017
We present a shear-velocity model for the Eyjafjallajokull stratovolcano, based on ambient seismic noise tomography applied to seven months of data from six permanent stations and -10 temporary sei ...

Ambient seismic noise tomography at Valhall

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011, 2011
Although permanent ocean-bottom cables installed at the Valhall field record high-quality and repeatable active seismic surveys, even in absence of active seismic shooting the array can record an abundance of seismic energy. Seismic interferometry of 29 hours of passive seismic data generates omnidirectional Scholte-wave virtual-sources at very low ...

Geotechnical site characterization with 3D ambient noise tomography

Geophysics, 2023
ABSTRACT We develop a new 3D ambient noise tomography (3D ANT) method for geotechnical site characterization. It requires recording ambient noise fields using a 2D surface array of geophones, from which experimental crosscorrelation functions (CCFs) are then extracted and directly inverted to obtain an S-wave velocity (VS) structure ...

Road sinkhole detection with 2D ambient noise tomography

Geophysics, 2021
ABSTRACT Seismic methods are often used for detection of precollapsed sinkholes (voids) under roadways for remediation to minimize risks to the safety of the traveling public. Although active-source seismic methods can provide accurate subsurface profiles, they require closing the traffic flow for hours during testing and may ...

Ambient noise tomography of the Katmai volcanic area, Alaska

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2021
Abstract We present an ambient noise tomographic study of the mid-crustal magmatic system in the Katmai area, Alaska. Using multi-component (vertical and radial) seismic records at 70 stations deployed at various times over 20 years, we construct corresponding cross-correlograms and extract ~1010 Rayleigh-wave dispersion curves in the periods between

Ambient-noise tomography of Katla volcano, south Iceland

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2017
Abstract A shear-wave velocity model of subglacial Katla volcano, southern Iceland, has been developed using ambient seismic noise tomography based on data from a temporary network operating between May 2011 and August 2013 and permanent stations around the volcano.
