Subsurface Structure from Ambient Seismic Noise
71st EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2009, 2009One of the applications of seismic interferometry (SI) by cross-correlation is the retrieval of the reflection response of the subsurface from ambient seismic noise recorded at the surface.

Monitoring Ca Lita Landslide by Means of the Ambient Seismic Noise
3rd Asia Pacific Meeting on Near Surface Geoscience & Engineering, 2020This study presents the analysis of the ambient seismic noise recorded on the Ca Lita landslide. In this perspective, we coupled the cross-correlation and polarization techniques with the objective of investigating the variations of the unstable slope's characteristics at two different époques.

Ambient seismic noise correlations for reservoir monitoring
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2012, 2012Seismic interferometry can turn passive seismic recordings into virtual seismic sources. This technique allows for the design of an installation that exploits the ambient seismic field for permanent continuous (nearly) real-time reservoir surveillance. Reliability of retrieved signals depends on the characteristics of the ambient seismic field and its ...

Seismic Ambient Noise Analysis in Southern Italy
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2012Abstract We studied the ambient noise recorded at Irpinia Seismic Network (ISNet), a seismic network installed along the Campania–Lucania Apenninic chain (southern Italy), with the aim of characterizing the noise spectrum for each station as a function of time and the detection threshold of the network.

Ambient seismic noise interferometry for exploration and surveillance
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2009, 2009In conventional seismic exploration, the construction of a detailed subsurface image requires highquality reflection recordings from a dense grid of seismic sources. Such data acquisition operations are laborious and thus costly on land, especially when surface terrain access is difficult such as in mountainous, swampy or densely populated areas.

Ambient-noise measurements for seismic risk mitigation of school buildings
Environmental Semeiotics, 2011Abstract: Seismic risk management of relevant and strategic structures is a notable issue in seismic Italian codes. In order to delineate a rational strategy for seismic risk mitigation on a wide territory, it is necessary to create some decision-making tools useful to define a prioritization of intervention.

Seismic attenuation from seismic ambient noise recordings
The eastern part of the Vienna Basin represents Austria's primary target for deep geothermal exploration. Effective geothermal resource assessment requires detailed knowledge of subsurface rock properties, including porosity, permeability, and fluid content.openaire +1 more source
Extracting Stable Seismic Core Phases from Ambient Seismic Noise
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2015Abstract Ambient seismic‐noise correlation is a powerful tool for extracting the seismic core phases that propagate through the interior of the Earth. In this study, we present and refine the root‐mean‐square‐stacking method to extract stable core phases (e.g., PcP , ScS , PcS / ScP , and PKiKP ) from within the Central Alborz region, Iran, using ...

Ambient seismic noise below the deep seafloor
The Leading Edge, 2000Knowledge of ambient noise levels and of the physical mechanisms responsible for ambient noise is essential to optimize the return from a seismic acquisition system in petroleum exploration or reservoir monitoring. The ultimate goal of a seismic survey is to give the best image of the subsurface that the earth will allow for a given budget.

Exploiting Seismic Waveforms of Ambient Noise and Earthquakes
2014In this thesis, I apply detailed waveform modeling to study noise correlations in different environments, and earthquake waveforms for source parameters and velocity structure. Green's functions from ambient noise correlations have primarily been used for travel-time measurement.
