Wave field inversion of ambient seismic noise
Proceedings, 2017We formulate a full wave field inversion for ambient seismic noise recorded by large and dense seismograph arrays. Full wave field inversion exploits the constraints on the gradients of the wave field that array data inherently possess (the sum is greater than its parts). Consequently, we can relax the spatial and temporal constraints on the wave field

Ambient seismic noise tomography at Valhall
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011, 2011Although permanent ocean-bottom cables installed at the Valhall field record high-quality and repeatable active seismic surveys, even in absence of active seismic shooting the array can record an abundance of seismic energy. Seismic interferometry of 29 hours of passive seismic data generates omnidirectional Scholte-wave virtual-sources at very low ...

Seismic Ambient Noise Analysis in Southern Italy
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2012Abstract We studied the ambient noise recorded at Irpinia Seismic Network (ISNet), a seismic network installed along the Campania–Lucania Apenninic chain (southern Italy), with the aim of characterizing the noise spectrum for each station as a function of time and the detection threshold of the network.

Ambient seismic noise below the deep seafloor
The Leading Edge, 2000Knowledge of ambient noise levels and of the physical mechanisms responsible for ambient noise is essential to optimize the return from a seismic acquisition system in petroleum exploration or reservoir monitoring. The ultimate goal of a seismic survey is to give the best image of the subsurface that the earth will allow for a given budget.

Ambient seismic noise correlations for reservoir monitoring
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2012, 2012Seismic interferometry can turn passive seismic recordings into virtual seismic sources. This technique allows for the design of an installation that exploits the ambient seismic field for permanent continuous (nearly) real-time reservoir surveillance. Reliability of retrieved signals depends on the characteristics of the ambient seismic field and its ...

Interpreting seismic velocity changes observed with ambient seismic noise correlations
Interpretation, 2016Recent results have shown that crosscorrelating ambient seismic noise recorded in underground mines can successfully extract the seismic Green’s function between sensors. We have revisited an earlier experiment that showed that these virtual seismic sources can be used to measure changes in seismic velocity accurately enough to monitor the short- and ...

Body-Wave Imaging of Earth’s Mantle Discontinuities from Ambient Seismic Noise
Science, 2012Exploiting Seismic Noise Typically, seismic imaging has been based on examining the seismic waves that traveled from a known source, usually an earthquake, to a seismograph. Poli et al. (p. 1063 ; see the Perspective by

Bandung seismic experiment: Towards tomographic imaging by using ambient seismic noise
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2016Bandung is one of the most densely populated cities in Indonesia with vital infrastructures. On the other hand, this area is surrounded by potential sources of earthquakes that make Bandung vulnerable to earthquakes. Structure of seismic velocity and sediment thickness are crucially needed in the earthquake hazard reduction program for Bandung.

Monitoring seismic velocity changes at Turrialba using ambient seismic noise interferometry
2023Seismic Ambient Noise Interferometry (SNI) is a prevalent tool for monitoring volcanic and associated seismic hazards. Reconstructing Empirical Green’s Functions by cross-correlation (CCs) of continuous seismic noise recordings allows us to track variations in seismic wave velocity with time, providing ongoing insights into the stress state of the ...

Seismic attenuation from seismic ambient noise recordings
The eastern part of the Vienna Basin represents Austria's primary target for deep geothermal exploration. Effective geothermal resource assessment requires detailed knowledge of subsurface rock properties, including porosity, permeability, and fluid content.openaire +1 more source
