Ambient Temperature and Screening for Nasopharyngeal Cancer

New England Journal of Medicine, 2018
False Positive Epstein–Barr Virus Screening Screening for EBV was previously found to improve survival in nasopharyngeal cancer. The authors now report that false positive results were more common among older people and people in colder climates. Screening may yield fewer false positive results if conducted in summer.

Self-stimulation, salicylate and ambient temperature

Physiology & Behavior, 1981
Abstract Effects of sodium salicylate and of cold or warm environment on intracranial self-stimulation and on colonic temperature of rats were assessed. Colonic temperature at the end of intracranial self-stimulation sessions was significantly lower after salicylate than after saline in 33 out of 36 animals. Self-stimulation rate was either decreased

Ambient temperature observations

Journal of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1923
AMBIENT temperature according to rule 2300 of the A. I. E. E. Standards, “is to be measured by means of several thermometers placed at different points around and half way up the machine at a distance of one to two meters or three to six feet.” “The value to be adopted for the ambient temperature during a test, is the mean of the readings of the ...

Adaptations to ambient temperature in growing pigs

Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1977
1. Pigs were weaned at 8--10 dyas of age and littermate pairs were raised in individual cages at ambient temperatures of 25 degrees C or 35 degrees C to 8 weeks of age. 2. Pigs reared at the higher temperature had longer extremities and less hair than controls even though body weights were similar. 3. On exposure to an ambient temperature of 45 degrees

Equivalent ambient temperatures for loading transformers

Electrical Engineering, 1943
Safe overloads for transformers can be determined by a modification of the American Standards Association rule for overloading to permit the use of an equivalent ambient temperature, which will result in the same loss of life as for continous operation at 30 degrees centigrade ambient and full load.
