Proceedings of the 6th international workshop on Middleware for pervasive and ad-hoc computing, 2008
Extensions to the actor model have been proposed to ease the development of mobile ad hoc applications. However, programming in the actor model is still difficult as it does not provide abstractions to synchronously coordinate multiple actors. Thus, when programmers want to coordinate two or more actors they have to do it by hand.

Semantic ambient media: From ambient advertising to ambient-assisted living
Multimedia Tools and Applications, 2012The term ambient media was in its beginning used only for ambient advertising. Nowadays it denotes the media environment and the communication of information in ubiquitous and pervasive environments. With the addition of intelligence, the new field of semantic ambient media was established.

In this paper we present Ambient Help, a system that supports opportunistic learning by providing automatic, context-sensitive learning resources while a user works. Multiple videos and textual help resources are presented ambiently on a secondary display. We define and examine a collection of design consideration for this type of interface.

With current programming languages programmers have to manually keep track of device connectivity state changes while interacting with multiple partners in an ambient environment. This leads to complex code which is hard to evolve and maintain. We propose ambient contracts, a novel programming abstraction which tracks connectivity states in order to ...

Proceedings of the 2005 joint conference on Smart objects and ambient intelligence: innovative context-aware services: usages and technologies, 2005
The motivation for this session is based on a vision of a future where there will be a number, however large, of processors integrated into artefacts in our environment. These objects will have an identity, an IP address of their own, or at least a tag attached to them, so that they can be activated and enabled to receive and transmit RF signals ...
