Ambush behavior of the tick Amblyomma sculptum ( Amblyomma cajennense complex) (Acari: Ixodidae) in the Brazilian Pantanal

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2017
We herein describe the ambush behavior of Amblyomma sculptum (Berlese 1888), a widespread and epidemiologically important tick in Brazil. Along two years of sampling by visual search in the Brazilian Pantanal, A. sculptum ticks were observed on the vegetation and in the leaf litter. Most of the ticks were observed between 10 and 50cm above ground level

Amblyomma cajennense Sensu Stricto (Fabricius, 1787) and Amblyomma sculptum (Berlese, 1888) Tick Saliva Elicit Immune‐Modulatory Activity in Isolated Murine Macrophages With an Insight Into Proteomic Analysis

open access: yesParasite Immunology, Volume 48, Issue 3, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Tick saliva is known to cause immunosuppression and help pathogen transmission. Amblyomma sculptum is a public health concern as a vector of Rickettsia rickettsii. Another close‐related species is Amblyomma cajennense sensu stricto (s.s.). The impact of saliva from these species on murine macrophages remains unclear.

Cross-reactivity between antigens from Amblyomma cajennense and A. hebraeum (Acari : Ixodidae)

open access: yesJournal of the South African Veterinary Association, 2004
Laboratory animals exposed to feeding ticks develop resistance which is reflected by a decline in tick engorgement weight, egg-laying by adults and reduced egg viability. Serum antibodies from these hosts and their reaction with tick antigens have been detected by different methods, including precipitation techniques, immunofluorescent techniques ...

Rickettsia spp. and Anaplasmataceae in Ticks From Domestic Animals in Northern Colombia

open access: yesZoonoses and Public Health, Volume 72, Issue 5, Page 421-434, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Introduction Tick‐borne diseases have a significant impact on public and animal health and represent a considerable financial burden on livestock farming. However, in many regions of Latin America, comprehensive epidemiological data, including species identification, geographical distribution and molecular profiling of ticks and their ...

Study of chelicerae in the tick Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius 1787) by scanning electron microscopy

Artificial feeding of Amblyomma cajennense (Acari: Ixodidae) fasting females through capillary tube technique [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2008
The present study aimed to adjust the artificial feeding technique through capillaries and to verify its influence over the biology of Amblyomma cajennense females. Five groups of 20 female ticks were formed. Females were starved for 45 days and then fed with citrated bovine blood using capillary tubes in different periods of time. Females were divided

Structural basis of chemokine recognition by the class A3 tick evasin EVA‐ACA1001

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 33, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract Ticks produce chemokine‐binding proteins, known as evasins, in their saliva to subvert the host's immune response. Evasins bind to chemokines and thereby inhibit the activation of their cognate chemokine receptors, thus suppressing leukocyte recruitment and inflammation.
