Effects of Sodium‐Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors on 24‐Hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association : Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2017
Background Sodium‐glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors are a novel class of antihyperglycemic agents that improve glycemic control by increasing glycosuria.

Zoborg: On‐Demand Climbing Control for Cyborg Beetles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel on‐demand climbing protocol enables Zoborg (a cyborg beetle from the living Zophobas morio) to seamlessly transition from horizontal floors to vertical walls. Multiple unrestrained mechanosensors allow wall sensing while electrical stimulation of the elytron initiates climbing. Leveraging the agile locomotion and exceptional adaptability of the

Lipid Droplet‐Organized MDM2‐Mediated P53 Degradation: A Metabolic Switch Governing Diet‐Driven Tumor Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tumor‐associated TP53 inactivation correlates with lipid droplet (LD) accumulation. High‐fat diets drive Cyb5r3‐Myh9‐mediated p53 enrichment on LD surfaces, accelerating its degradation while upregulating LD‐promoting factor CD36 expression to establish a feed‐forward loop. LD suppression or dietary intervention restores p53 and inhibits tumorigenesis,

Effect of general anaesthesia with remimazolam versus propofol on postoperative quality of recovery in patients undergoing ambulatory arthroscopic meniscus repair: a randomised clinical trial

open access: yesBJA Open, 2023
Background: The type of anaesthesia and choice of anaesthetic drugs may affect the quality of recovery after surgery. Remimazolam is a new benzodiazepine with rapid onset and offset, specifically antagonised by flumazenil.

Multi‐Omics and ‐Organ Insights into Energy Metabolic Adaptations in Early Sepsis Onset

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that patients at risk of sepsis have a distinct metabolite and lipid signature, including serine and aminoadipic acid, in their serum before clinical diagnosis. A mouse model of sepsis with a compatible serum signature reveals underlying metabolic changes, including mitochondrial adaptation, altered serine‐dependent purine metabolism ...

Muscle mass and intramuscular fat of the quadriceps are related to muscle strength in non-ambulatory chronic stroke survivors: A cross-sectional study

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Objective Improving muscle mass and intramuscular fat in the mid-thigh increases the muscle strength of the paretic and non-paretic limbs in ambulatory chronic stroke survivors.

Patient anxiety and conscious surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The amount of surgery undertaken on the conscious patient is increasing. However, many patients are anxious and resistant to such surgery. Patients (n=214) were surveyed to determine their related apprehensions.

Igfbp2 Downregulation in PVT‐CeA Glutamatergic Circuits Drives Neonatal Anesthesia‐Induced Fear Memory Deficits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Repeated neonatal sevoflurane exposure impairs adolescent fear memory through Igfbp2 downregulation in paraventricular thalamus‐central amygdala glutamatergic projections. Restoring Igfbp2 or activating this circuit rescues memory deficits, neuronal excitability, and spine density, identifying a precise molecular target for preventing anesthesia ...

The Long Noncoding RNA ΒFaar Promotes White Adipose Tissue Browning and Prevents Diet‐Induced Obesity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
βFaar selectively targets and inhibits the GTPase activity of the RAB18 protein, thereby reducing LD volume. Conversely, βFaar promotes nuclear translocation of the transcription factor IRF4 in inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT), facilitating the browning of white adipose tissue and attenuating body fat accumulation.
