Mesures compensatoires pour la biodiversité : comment améliorer les dossiers environnementaux et la gouvernance ? [PDF]

open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires, 2013
Les compensations d’impacts sur la biodiversité reposent sur une équivalence écologique entre les pertes dues aux projets d’aménagements et les gains attendus par les mesures compensatoires.

Monitoring the Large Wood Regime in a Partially Regulated Alpine River Following Several Experimental Floods

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract While instream large wood is recognized as vital for healthy river ecosystems, the wood regime remains less understood compared to flow and sediment regimes, primarily due to limited monitoring. Most existing research focuses on unregulated rivers, leaving knowledge gaps in regulated systems.

Increased retention after harvest better maintains carabid abundance in boreal mixedwood forests under two climate change scenarios

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 10, Page 2541-2554, October 2025.
Our findings suggest that under lower emission scenarios, high‐retention harvesting is an effective strategy to conserve carabids over the next two decades and can increase species' resilience throughout short‐term periods of stress. Under more extreme emissions scenarios, high‐retention harvesting can be used to conserve carabid populations for ...

Recent and Rapid Assembly of an Island Species–Area Relationship Threatened by Human Disturbance

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 28, Issue 10, October 2025.
The island species–area relationship (ISAR), traditionally studied in millions of years old oceanic archipelagos, remains poorly understood in much younger insular systems. Using fish communities from 79 postglacial peri‐Alpine lakes, we show that classical ISAR patterns can emerge rapidly, contrary to expectations given their young age (< 15,000 years)

Séquence Éviter-Réduire-Compenser : des enjeux écologiques aux considérations pratiques pour atteindre l'objectif d'absence de perte nette de biodiversité [PDF]

open access: yesSciences, Eaux & Territoires, 2020
La séquence Éviter-Réduire-Compenser (ERC) est un outil réglementaire mis en œuvre dans les années 1970, dont l’objectif théorique est de concilier aménagement du territoire et biodiversité.

Problematizing the sociocultural production of nature: Considering settler colonialism in Confederation Park

open access: yesCanadian Geographer / Le géographe canadien, Volume 69, Issue 4, Winter / hiver 2025.
Abstract This manuscript provides a viewpoint on issues of settler colonialism in relation to natural playground contexts. Reflections emerged while conducting a multi‐site study on natural playground development and usage in Calgary, Canada. One site was situated in a large urban green space, Confederation Park, and illustrated the materialization of ...

Leveraging Biomass Procurement to Mitigate Carbon Emissions at the Stand Level: A Case Study in Eastern Canadian Forests

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 17, Issue 9, September 2025.
The carbon emission reductions from using residual forest biomass for bioenergy remain controversial, despite its potential to mitigate climate change. This study evaluated how intensifying wood procurement for bioenergy, alongside supplying fiber for conventional wood industries, can support low‐carbon forest management.
