Using YOLOv5 Algorithm to Detect and Recognize American Sign Language

2021 International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT), 2021
Sign language is a system of communication using visual gestures and signs, and is generally used by people who have speech or hearing difficulties. To make those people included in the verbal communication community it’s important to under-stand the ...

American Sign Language: The Phonological Base

Sign Language Studies, 1989
This paper has the ambitious goal of outlining the phonological structures and processes we have analyzed in American Sign Language (ASL). In order to do this we have divided the paper into five parts. In section 1 we detail the types of sequential phenomena found in the production of individual signs, allowing us to argue that ASL signs are ...

American Sign Language Interpreter

2012 IEEE Fourth International Conference on Technology for Education, 2012
There is currently an abundance of software in the market that is used to help teach people sign language. This software is very effective; however it is very difficult to know if you are making correct hand gestures. It is quite tedious to learn from the software hence making them less user friendly.

The Duration of Syllables in American Sign Language [PDF]

open access: possibleLanguage and Speech, 1986
Data are presented for the duration of syllables in American Sign Language and for movement and hold components of those syllables. Measurements from 3072 syllables taken from four different samples of signing resulted in a grand mean of 293.7 msec. The different signing samples reflected different degrees of naturalness, and the means for each sample

American sign language of the web

CHI '04 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2004
The development of non-western character encodings has empowered linguistic communities all over the world to create their own on-line Webs. However, in the case of sign languages, which convey meaning by gestures moving in time and space, the static and textual nature of the WWW medium has, until now, continued to prevent the development of on-line ...
