Navigating infection by pathogenic spirochetes: The host‐bacteria interface at the atomic level
Abstract Pathogenic spirochetes bind and interact with various host structures and molecules throughout the course of infection. By utilizing their outer surface molecules, spirochetes can effectively modulate their dissemination, interact with immune system regulators, and select specific destination niches within the host.

Biocatalytic degradation of pharmaceuticals, personal care products, industrial chemicals, steroid hormones and pesticides in a membrane distillation-enzymatic bioreactor [PDF]
© 2017 Elsevier Ltd Laccase-catalyzed degradation of a broad spectrum of trace organic contaminants (TrOCs) by a membrane distillation (MD)-enzymatic membrane bioreactor (EMBR) was investigated. The MD component effectively retained TrOCs (94–99%) in the

The study demonstrates that under mild hydrogenation conditions, C‐H/D exchange occurs in common solvents toluene and xylene, especially at benzylic positions. Studies indicate that carbon‐centered radicals bind strongly to Pd surfaces, suggesting their possible role in catalytic reactions. Spin‐trapping EPR confirms H‐radical adducts are present under

Kinetics and mechanistic studies for the oxidation of N-Benzylhydroxylamine by a CoIII-bound bridging superoxo complex in perchloric acid medium [PDF]
In aqueous perchloric acid medium (pH = 0.522 – 1.3) , N–benzylhydroxylamine ( two electron reductant) reduces the one electron oxidant, superoxo ligand in [(dien)(en)CoIII(O2)CoIII(en)(dien)](ClO4)5 (1) to the corresponding hydroperoxo complex, [(en)(

ABSTRACT This article deals with the hot air aging behavior of polypropylene random copolymers additivated with phenolic antioxidants, hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) and thiosynergists in a wide temperature range from 65°C to 135°C. Various stabilizer mixtures and their interactions were evaluated. To avoid diffusion‐limited oxidation effects,

Light‐driven conversion of glycerol to formic acid coupled to reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide is developed with an anthraquinone disulfonate photocatalyst, in water and exploiting blue light. A mechanism analysis reveals a photochemical hydrogen atom transfer as the key primary step, based on EPR, transient absorption spectroscopy, and TD‐DFT ...

Spirocyclic Pyrrolidinyl Nitroxides with Exo‐Methylene Substituents
Stable spins: Nitroxide radicals are useful spectroscopic probes in biological settings, but suffer from limitations in stability and electron spin relaxation times. The synthesis of a novel spirocyclic nitroxide scaffold is described, and the new nitroxides are thoroughly evaluated by X‐ray crystallography, electrochemistry and electron paramagnetic ...

Recyclable Organic Radical Electrodes for Metal‐Free Batteries
A metal‐free organic battery was recycled to demonstrate the prospect of circular energy storage. Abstract Organic batteries are one of the possible routes for transitioning to sustainable energy storage solutions. However, the recycling of organic batteries, which is a key step toward circularity, is not easily achieved.

Electrochemical Aminoxyl-Mediated α-Cyanation of Secondary Piperidines for Pharmaceutical Building Block Diversification [PDF]
Secondary piperidines are ideal pharmaceutical building blocks owing to the prevalence of piperidines in commercial drugs. Here, we report an electrochemical method for cyanation of the heterocycle adjacent to nitrogen without requiring protection or ...
