Amiodarone is a very potent anti-arrhythmic drug, which is successfully used in the treatment of atrial fibrillation and life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias. The drug, however, has many side effects. Amiodarone influences thyroid hormone secretion and metabolism in all patients taking the drug.

Amiodarone is an effective antiarrhythmic drug for supra-ven-tri-cular and ventricular arrhythmias. A majority of patients treated with amiodarone suffer from mild adverse events, however, serious life-threatening adverse events caused by amiodarone are also seen.
