On-line preconcentration using dual mini-columns for the speciation of chromium(III) and chromium(VI) and its application to water samples as studied by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
On-line preconcentration system for the selective, sensitive and simultaneous determination of chromium species was investigated. Dual minicolumns containing chelating resin were utilized for the speciation and preconcentration of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in ...

Finite-sample-size effects on convection in mushy layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report theoretical and experimental investigations of the flow instability responsible for the mushy-layer mode of convection and the formation of chimneys, drainage channels devoid of solid, during steady-state solidification of aqueous ammonium chloride.

Ultrasoft Iontronics: Stretchable Diodes Enabled by Ionically Conductive Bottlebrush Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a solvent‐free, ultrasoft, and stretchable ionic diode based on oppositely charged bottlebrush elastomers (BBEs). The BBE diode exhibits an ultralow Young's modulus (<23 kPa), a high rectification ratio of 46, and stretchability over 400%.

Monte Carlo Studies of the Orientational Order-Disorder Phase Transition in Solid Ammonium Chloride [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1994
Monte Carlo methods are used to study the phase transition in ammonium chloride from the orientationally ordered $\delta$ phase to the orientationally disordered $\gamma$ phase. An effective pair potential is used to model the interaction between ions. Thermodynamic properties are computed in the canonical and isothermal-isobaric ensembles.

Layer-by-layer formation of oligoelectrolyte multilayers: a combined experimental and computational study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
For the first time, the combination of experimental preparation and results of fully atomistic simulations of an oligoelectrolyte multilayer (OEM) made of poly(diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride)/poly(styrene sulfonate sodium salt) (PDADMAC/PSS) is presented.

Role of Impurity Nanoparticles in Laser-Induced Nucleation of Ammonium Chloride

open access: yes, 2016
Results of experiments on laser-induced nucleation (LIN) in supersaturated (120%) aqueous ammonium chloride solutions are presented. Measurement of the particle-size distribution in unfiltered solutions near saturation (95%) indicates a population of ...

Fluoride‐Free Molten Salt Hydrate‐Assisted Synthesis of MXene in Air Down to 150 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel low‐temperature shielded salt (LSS) approach enables the synthesis of MXenes in air at temperatures as low as 150 °C using MgCl2·6H2O/LiCl. This method demonstrates successful etching of challenging MXenes like Cr2CTx and Nb2CTx through the synergistic effects of Li+ ions and salt hydrate phase changes, while eliminating the need for inert ...

Chloride‐Mediated Electron Buffering on Ni‐Fe Anodes for Ampere‐Level Alkaline Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Utilizing abundant chloride ion (Cl−) of seawater, the small organic molecule (SOM) layer on the electrocatalyst surface is converted to SOM‐Cl layer. Meanwhile, the conjugated structure of SOM is modified. SOM‐Cl layer can effectively mitigate the damage caused by the highly oxidative environment.
