Flow injection determination of readily assimilable nitrogen compounds during vinification [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A flow injection method for the determination of readily assimilable nitrogen (r.a.n.), i.e. ammonium and aminated nitrogen, is reported. The difference in pH of the sample in the presence and absence of formaldehyde, which blocks the amino function ...

Fluoride‐Free Molten Salt Hydrate‐Assisted Synthesis of MXene in Air Down to 150 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A novel low‐temperature shielded salt (LSS) approach enables the synthesis of MXenes in air at temperatures as low as 150 °C using MgCl2·6H2O/LiCl. This method demonstrates successful etching of challenging MXenes like Cr2CTx and Nb2CTx through the synergistic effects of Li+ ions and salt hydrate phase changes, while eliminating the need for inert ...

Chloride‐Mediated Electron Buffering on Ni‐Fe Anodes for Ampere‐Level Alkaline Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Utilizing abundant chloride ion (Cl−) of seawater, the small organic molecule (SOM) layer on the electrocatalyst surface is converted to SOM‐Cl layer. Meanwhile, the conjugated structure of SOM is modified. SOM‐Cl layer can effectively mitigate the damage caused by the highly oxidative environment.

Biodegradation of rocket propellant waste, ammonium perchlorate [PDF]

open access: yes
The short term effects of ammonium perchlorate on selected organisms were studied. A long term experiment was also designed to assess the changes incurred by ammonium perchlorate on the nitrogen and chloride contents of soil within a period of 3 years ...

Topological Insulator Layered Bi2Te3 Based 3D‐Printed Nanocarbon Electrode for Rechargeable Aqueous Ammonium‐Ion Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, Bi2Te3 is integrated into a 3D‐printed nanocarbon electrode for NH4+ storage. A rocking‐chair battery with CuHCF as the cathode delivers a high energy density of 134.8 Wh kg−1 and a power density of 1800 W kg−1. The design allows easy recovery of carbon additives, promoting sustainability and recyclability in next‐generation aqueous ...

Nitrate pollution from horticultural production systems : tools for policy and advice from field to catchment scales [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The implementation of the Nitrates Directive has imposed a requirement to restrict N fertiliser and manuring practices on farms across the EU in order to reduce nitrate losses to water.

Unravelling the surface chemistry of metal oxide nanocrystals, the role of acids and bases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We synthesized HfO2 nanocrystals from HfCl4 using a surfactant-free solvothermal process in benzyl alcohol and found that the resulting nanocrystals could be transferred to nonpolar media using a mixture of carboxylic acids and amines.

Highly Scalable, Raspberry‐Like Microbeads with Nano‐/Micro‐Confined Hybrid Hydrogel Desiccants for Rapid Atmospheric Water Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable nano‐/micro‐confinement strategy is developed, where polyacrylamide (PAM)‐LiCl hybrid desiccants are confined within hollow nanoparticles (HNPs) and assembled into raspberry‐like microbeads. The beads have a hydrogel‐rich core and an NP‐rich shell for fast absorption and desorption, releasing water 13.6 L kg⁻¹ day⁻¹.

Bacteriochlorophyll aggregates in positively charged micelles [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Micellar complexes were prepared from bacteriochlorophyll a and bacteriopheophytin a with the cationic detergents, cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide and cetylpyridinium chloride. These complexes have spectroscopic properties (absorption, circular dichroism)

Ammonium chloride, an environmental pollutant, disrupts melanocyte biology through the regulation of melanosome and autophagy

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Ammonium chloride is an indoor environmental pollutant released due to industrial emissions, concrete, indoor bacteria, or other sources. In this study, we characterized molecular mechanisms of ammonium chloride-induced cell damage in melanocyte cells ...
