The use of isoxazoline and isoxazole scaffolding in the design of novel thiourea and amide liquid-crystalline compounds

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2020
A series of novel thiourea and amide liquid crystals containing 5-membered isoxazoline and isoxazole rings were synthetized and the liquid crystal properties studied.

Comments on the paper: Synthesis growth and characterization of copper mercury thiocyanate crystal [Indian J Pure & App Phys 49 (2011) 340-343] [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
The unit cell parameters, infrared and UV-Vis spectral data reported in the paper by Vijayabhaskaran et al (Indian J Pure & App Phys 49 (2011) 340-343) cannot belong to the colourless crystalline compound formulated as copper mercury thiocyanate CuHg(SCN)4 as claimed by the authors.

Unveiling the Therapeutic Potential of Atractylis aristata Batt. Aqueous Extract: Anti‐inflammatory, Antioxidant, Antibacterial, Sedative Activities & Phytochemical Profiling

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the pharmacological properties of the aqueous extract of Atractylis aristata, focusing on its antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, antibacterial, and sedative activities. Phytochemical analysis identifies bioactive compounds, while in vitro and in vivo tests demonstrate its therapeutic potential in addressing oxidative stress ...

A survey of explosive traces in public places

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Interpretation and evaluation of trace explosives evidence requires practitioner understanding of factors including transfer, persistence, and environmental prevalence. This study builds on previous work and studies the contemporary prevalence of organic high explosives and inorganic ions of explosives significance in public places.

Direct Observation of Electron Donation onto the Reactants and a Transient Poisoning Mechanism During CO2 Electroreduction on Ni Single Atom Catalysts

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 18, April 25, 2025.
In situ techniques reveal key insights into the electrochemical reduction of CO2 on Ni single atom catalysts. Through poisoning studies, we reveal that the reduction of the system does not result in a metal‐based reduction, rather it is associated with donation of electrons onto a combination of the support and the reactants.

Synthesis, analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities of substituted benzoylthioureas

open access: yesIndonesian Journal of Pharmacy, 2010
Three compounds (i.e. benzoylthiourea, 4-nitrobenzoylthiourea, and 4-chlorobenzoylthiourea) have been synthesized from ammonium thiocyanate, substituted benzoyl chlorides, and ammonia as starting materials.

Magnetic Ordering of Ammonium Cations in NH$_4$I, NH$_4$Br and NH$_4$Cl [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Phys. Chem. C 123, 23655-23660 (2019)
The different types of magnetism arise mainly from how electrons move and interact with each other. In this work, we show how protons (H$^+$) also exhibit magnetic behavior. We measured the magnetic susceptibility of the ammonium halides and identified pronounced increases at 232 K, 233 K and 243 K for NH$_4$I, NH$_4$Br and NH$_4$Cl, respectively ...

The Transient Growth of Ammonium Chloride Dendrites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We report measurements of the initial growth and subsequent transient response of dendritic crystals of ammonium chloride grown from supersaturated aqueous solution. Starting from a small, nearly spherical seed held in unstable equilibrium, we lower the temperature to initiate growth.

Bacterial transcriptional repressor NrdR – a flexible multifactorial nucleotide sensor

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
NrdR is a bacterial transcription factor that regulates the expression of all three types of ribonucleotide reductase, an essential enzyme for cell survival, in response to intracellular ATP and dATP levels. We have carried out a comprehensive biochemical, biophysical and structural study of the response of E. coli NrdR to ATP and dATP.

Presumptive Tests for Xylazine—A Computer Vision Approach

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 6, Issue 1, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Abuse of xylazine is an immediate global public health concern. We report the distinct and measurable colour changes when xylazine is exposed to the Mandelin, Marquis and Mecke presumptive test reagents. The colour changes observed with xylazine are distinct from those of drugs that give colour changes from the same presumptive tests.
