The Lancet, 1971Abstract To date, hypotheses of the aetiology of retrograde amnesia have focused on anatomical effects of traumatic lesions and on the presumed existence of short-term memory. The invariable association of retrograde amnesia with post-traumatic amnesia has been ignored as a clue to the origin of retrograde amnesia.

Retrograde amnesia from detention☆
Physiology & Behavior, 1968Abstract Detention of mice in the passive avoidance apparatus after the training trial decreased their step-through latencies in the retest trial and increased amnesic effect of ECS treatment. Mere detention was found to produce retrograde amnesia even if it occurred outside the apparatus.

Retrograde Amnesia in Free Recall
Science, 1969Supervention of high-priority events in a series of events constituting a free-recall task interferes with postexposure processing of mnemonic information about immediately preceding events, with the result that recall of these preceding events is impaired. Recall of immediately following events is not affected.
