Analysis of Gene Expression in Aedes aegypti Suggests Changes in Early Genetic Control of Mosquito Development

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aedes aegypti, a critical vector for tropical diseases, poses significant challenges for studying its embryogenesis due to difficulties in removing its rigid chorion and achieving effective fixation for in situ hybridization. Here, we present novel methodologies for fixation, dechorionation, DAPI staining, and in situ hybridization, enabling ...

Complaints Involving Sonographers: What Three Decades of Cases From A Public New Zealand Database Can Teach Us

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, EarlyView.
Health consumer complaints to the New Zealand Health and Disability Commissioner involving sonographers are rare, totalling 15 in the last 31 years and averaging 1.5 cases per year over the last decade. A large proportion of complaints involve an undetected finding, obstetric examination and private setting.

Perinatal outcome in terminal oligohydramnios

open access: yesAsian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2017
Background of the Study: Amniotic fluid or liquor, the fluid around the developing fetus serves various functions. A balance of formation and reabsorption of this fluid has to be maintained.

Intrauterine Transfusions in Fetuses Affected by Parvovirus B19: Complications, Challenges and Outcomes

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study evaluates the procedural characteristics, complications, and outcomes of intrauterine transfusion (IUT) for fetal anemia caused by parvovirus B19 infection during the 2023–2024 epidemic in Northwestern Europe. Method This multicenter observational study included all fetuses undergoing IUT for proven parvovirus B19‐induced ...

The effect of polyhydramnios on cervical length in twins: a controlled intervention study in complicated monochorionic pregnancies.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
ObjectiveTo test the hypothesis that cervical shortening in polyhydramnios reflects the degree of excess amniotic fluid, and increases with normalisation of amniotic fluid volume.Study designProspective cohort study of 40 women with monochorionic twins ...

Titanium dioxide nanoparticles induce cytotoxicity and reduce mitotic index in human amniotic fluid-derived cells

open access: yes, 2015
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) are commonly used materials present in many consumables for which most people are exposed to. The biological hazards of the NPs on human health have been demonstrated previously.

Evaluating the Utility of RNAseq in Prenatal Diagnostics: Expression Profiles of Cultured Chorionic Villus and Amniotic Fluid Samples

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective While RNAseq has enhanced variant interpretation in postnatal cases, its potential in the prenatal setting remains underexplored. This study investigates the utility of RNAseq in prenatal diagnostics by analyzing the expression profiles of cultured chorionic villus samples (cCVS) and amniotic fluid (cAF) samples. Methods We performed
