Amobarbital effects on the posterior hippocampus during the intracarotid amobarbital test

open access: yesNeurology, 1999
To relate functional effects on the hippocampus during the intracarotid amobarbital test (IAT) to its direct perfusion with amobarbital. In 17 patients with intractable temporal lobe epilepsy, 28 hemispheres were perfused with 2.3 mL of 10% solution of 200 mg amobarbital and 37 MBq 99mTc-hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (HMPAO).

The amobarbital interview

Jacep, 1979
In two apparently disoriented patients, the emergency physician's use of amobarbital quickly eliminated diagnoses of an organic etiology. Although thousands of amobarbital interviews have had no complications, the use of amobarbital should follow a thorough evaluation.

A behavioral effect of amobarbital

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 1964
The hypothesis that amobarbital causes an increase in output of behavior by inhibition of the effect of an inhibitory stimulus has been tested in comparison to the hypothesis that the differential increases are related to different probabilities of responding without the drug. Experiments were made on 3 pigeons pecking a plastic key under a schedule of

Language assessment in Wada test: Comparison of methohexital and amobarbital

open access: yesSeizure: the Journal of the British Epilepsy Association, 2009
IntroductionMethohexital has replaced amobarbital during Wada testing at many centers. The objective of our study was to compare the use of methohexital and amobarbital during Wada testing regarding language and memory lateralization quotients as well as

Salivary excretion of amobarbital in man

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1975
The concentrations of amobarbital in saliva and serum were determined in 5 normal adults following ingestion of 120 mg of sodium amobarbital. There was excellent linear relationship between amobarbital concentrations in saliva and serum (r = 0.993); salivary levels were 36.1% of serum levels.
