Anthropogenic AMOC-temperature drop

The previously predicted regional Northern temperature drop from anthropogenic freshwater-induced AMOC weakening is found counterbalanced by the warming contributions from CO2 and ice melt.

On the detectability of multi-centennial AMOC variations

Understanding natural variability in the strength of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) on centennial to multi-centennial timescales is important in the light of recent AMOC changes, as well as predicted future changes. However, AMOC variability simulated by climate models varies widely in both characteristics and underlying ...

AMOC tipping risk reconsidered

The AMOC is crucial and sensitive part of the global climate system. It transports huge amounts of heat north across the equator into the northern Atlantic. It is the main reason why the Northern Hemisphere is 1 – 2 °C warmer than the Southern Hemisphere (Feulner et al.

Fingerprinting the AMOC and predicting a collapse

In a recent paper [2] we predicted a collapse of the AMOC as soon as mid-century at odds with assessments based on climate model scenarios. The prediction was based on the sub polar gyre fingerprint as a proxy for the AMOC as proposed by Ceasar et al. [2].
