The vampyrellid amoeba Strigomyxa ruptor gen. et sp. nov. and its remarkable strategy to acquire algal cell contents

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
The vampire amoebae (Vampyrellida, Rhizaria) inhabit freshwater, marine, and terrestrial ecosystems and consume a wide range of eukaryotic prey. This includes diverse microalgae, fungi, and microscopic animals.

Molecular Survey of Chlamydial Infections in Three Public Bird Collections in Tehran, Iran

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 5, September 2025.
One hundred and eight samples from different avian species were collected and tested for Chlamydia spp. infection using PCR. Thirty‐seven samples from Psittaciformes, Columbiformes, Falconiformes, Galliformes and Charadriiformes were positive for Chlamydia DNA.

NAEGLERIA: BRAIN-EATING AMOEBA

open access: yesGomal Journal of Medical Sciences, 2017
Naegleria is a genus of protozoa. The genus was named after French zoologist Mathieu Naegler. Naegleria is a microscopic amoeba that can cause a very rare, but severe, infection of the brain. A brief historical sketch is given since the discovery of this

Computation of open Gromov-Witten invariants for toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds by topological recursion, a proof of the BKMP conjecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The BKMP conjecture (2006-2008), proposed a new method to compute closed and open Gromov-Witten invariants for every toric Calabi-Yau 3-folds, through a topological recursion based on mirror symmetry.

Evidence for clonal structure of natural populations of free-living amoebae of the genus Naegleria

open access: yesGenetical Research, 1997
Genetic diversity of natural populations of the two species Naegleria gruberi and N. australiensis collected at the same time in the same area was studied using multilocus enzyme electrophoresis (MLEE analysis). Reference strains and related species were also analysed for comparison.

Aspects of Genetic Diversity, Host Specificity and Public Health Significance of Single‐Celled Intestinal Parasites Commonly Observed in Humans and Mostly Referred to as ‘Non‐Pathogenic’

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 133, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Clinical microbiology involves the detection and differentiation of primarily bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi in patients with infections. Billions of people may be colonised by one or more species of common luminal intestinal parasitic protists (CLIPPs) that are often detected in clinical microbiology laboratories; still, our knowledge

Latitudinal Diversity Gradients in Free-living Microorganisms - Hoogenraadia a Key Genus in Testate Amoebae Biogeography

open access: yesActa Protozoologica, 2015
The extent to which free-living microorganisms show cosmopolitan distributions has been a contentious aspect of microbial ecol¬ogy over the last few decades. Testate amoebae are a group of free living protists that can provide important evidence for the nature of the biogeography of microorganisms because there are relatively good data on the ...
