Two new species of the recently described genus Stenamoeba, named S. berchidia and S. sardiniensis were isolated from a single soil sample on Sardinia, Italy. Both share morphological features characteristic to Stenamoeba and form in phylogenetic analyses together with other Stenamoeba spp. a highly supported clade within the family Thecamoebidae.

Research on testate amoebae goes back to the early 19th century, more precisely the year 1815 when Leclerc (or Le Clerc) described the genus Difflugia , which he presented as a “new type of amorphous polyp” (Leclerc, 1815).

Two marine members of the genus Vexillifera Schaeffer, 1926 (Amoebozoa, Dactylopodida) are described. Vexillifera abyssalis n. sp. originates from an abyssal sample of the Western Atlantic 4.5 km deep, which is the first unambiguous record of a deep-sea Vexillifera. The second species, V. kereti n. sp. was isolated from the soft bottom sediments of the

Twenty-three freshwater samples with sediment taken from two regions in the Arctic, Spitzbergen and Greenland, and one region in sub-Antarctica, Ile de la Possession, were cultured for amoebae at 37 degrees C and room temperature (RT). Only two samples yielded amoebae at 37 degrees C and the two isolates were identified from their morphological ...

[Amoebae of the genus Acanthamoeba--causative agents of human infections].
Epidemiologie, mikrobiologie, imunologie : casopis Spolecnosti pro epidemiologii a mikrobiologii Ceske lekarske spolecnosti J.E. Purkyne, 2012Amoebae of the genus Acanthamoeba Volkonsky, 1931 are ubiquitous, amphizoic organisms with a cosmopolitan distribution. Pathogenic strains are the causative agents of a difficult to treat disease, granulomatous amoebic encephalitis (GAE), and skin infections in immunocompromised individuals, and of a painful corneal disease--amoebic keratitis (AK) in ...

[Determination of cytoplasmic glycogen in 4 strains of amoeba of the genus Entamoeba].
Archivos de investigacion medica, 1991The purpose of this work was made to determine the cytoplasmic glycogen concentration in trophozoites from four different strains of Entamoeba genus. We used IP-1 and PZ from E. invadens; HM-2 and HK-9 from E. histolytica strains, axenically cultured in TP-S-1 medium. The growth of different strains was determined each 24 hours during 10-days, with the
