Detection of Amp C genes encoding for beta-lactamases in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2012
Amp C beta-lactamase are Ambler class C enzymes that confer resistance to extended spectrum cephalosporins and are not inhibited by beta-lactamase inhibitors. Their detection is crucial, since the phenotypic tests are not standardised leading to ambiguity in interpretation of results.

Phenotypic detection of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases and Amp C Beta- Lactamases among nosocomial isolates in a tertiary care hospital

open access: yesBangladesh Journal of Medical Science, 2013
Background & objectives: Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) is an important resistance mechanism in Enterobacteriaceae infections. Lack of standard guidelines from Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) for Amp C beta-lactamase detection poses a problem.

Prevalence of Amp C Beta-lactamase Producers Among Uropathogens at Shree Birendra Hospital.

open access: yesMedical Journal of Shree Birendra Hospital, 2015
Introduction: Amp C β lactamases confer resistance to a wide variety of β-lactam antibiotics and are poorly inhibited by β-lactamase inhibitors such as clavulanic acid. Plasmid carrying Amp C enzyme also carry genes responsible of resistance to multiple other antibiotics, hence therapeutic options to infection caused by this type of organism is limited.

Amp C β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli in neonatal meningitis: diagnostic and therapeutic challenge [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatology, 2006
Antibiotic resistance is a global health priority. Major defenses for Gram-negative bacteria are beta-lactamase enzymes, which have co-evolved with the development and increasing utilization of new antibiotics. Bacteria harboring the plasmid-mediated AmpC enzymes are increasingly prevalent among adult patients, but have not previously been reported in ...

Structure‐Based Drug Design (SBDD) and In Silico Pharmacophore Screening Enabled the Discovery of Small Organic Molecules and Peptides Modulators of Bla C, TEM‐1 and Amp C Beta Lactamases

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2021
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and remains a major, worldwide health concern. The emergence of M. tuberculosis strains that are resistant to front line antimycobacterial drugs such as isoniazid and rifampicin have greatly complicated efforts to control the spread of TB.

Identification of extended-spectrum-beta-lactamases(ESBLs), metallo-beta-lactamases (MBLs), Amp-C and KPC -lactamases among Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from adults and pediatric patients in Iran

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Microbiology Research, 2013
Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the major bacteria that cause acute infections. β-lactamases are main defensive mechanisms in bacteria against drugs. The aim of this study was to determine antibiotic resistance patterns and detection of extended-spectrum-beta-lactamase (ESBL), MBL, Amp-C and KPC β-lactamases among K.

Evolutionary and Epidemiological Characterization of Multidrug‐Resistant Escherichia coli Isolated From Pangolins in China

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Malayan pangolin populations have fallen to a critically endangered level, and illegal trafficking of wild pangolins is a global problem. Little is known about antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria (MDRB) harbored by pangolins, although pangolins are frequently consumed as food or used in traditional medicine. In this study, we report for the first

Type IV‐Dominated Plasmid‐Encoded CRISPR‐Cas Systems Are Enriched in Multireplicon and Multi‐Stressor Resistance Plasmids Across the Global Plasmidome

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Screening 72,555 plasmid sequences reveals that intact CRISPR‐Cas systems are rare (1.03%) but strongly enriched in multireplicon and multi‐stressor resistance plasmids, with Type IV‐A as the dominant subtype. These findings implicate plasmid‐encoded CRISPR‐Cas as non‐randomly retained elements of structurally complex and high‐risk backbones.

Stimuli‐Responsive Lipid‐Based Nanocarriers for Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, Volume 9, Issue 11, November 2026.
This manuscript demonstrated, through a scoping review of the literature, that modifying lipid nanocarriers with organic and inorganic excipients is a promising alternative to increase in vitro drug release of antimicrobial compounds under the studied stimulus and significantly enhance in vitro and in vivo antimicrobial activity compared to isolated ...

Phenotypic detection of ESBL and Amp C beta lactamase among clinical isolates of Enterobacteriaceae

open access: yesIP International Journal of Medical Microbiology and Tropical Diseases
Emergence of ESBL & amp C β-Lactamase enzymes among clinical isolates of poses a significant public health concern. Antimicrobial agents like 3 generation cephalosporins, clavulanic acid, imipenem etc. can induce amp C enzyme production. Sometimes the automated antimicrobial susceptibility testing systems fails to detect Amp C phenotype due to ...
