Power cable ampacities

Electrical Engineering, 1962
The Insulated Power Cable Engineers Association published in 1943 the original edition of “Current Carrying Capacity of Impregnated-Paper, Rubber and Varnished Cambric Insulated Cables.” The excellent tables in this book were based on the best American practice at the time they were published and, as the title implies, were quite extensive in their ...

Modeling Ampacity in Advanced Electrical Conductors

Journal of Heat Transfer, 2022
Abstract An enabling advantage of carbon-based conductors is their low density and high thermal conductivity. To put this in the perspective of applications, current rating of carbon-based and copper nanocomposite conductors of different lengths are modeled.

Fire protection wrapped cable tray ampacity

IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 1989
A method is presented for calculation of ampacity of cable in fire protection wrapped cable trays. A brief description of the model is presented. The iterative technique used for solution of the model's simultaneous transcendental equations is presented with a description of the computer program.

Ampacity of wrapped cables

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1988
Analytical equations that permit quick computation of the ampacity of power cables wrapped with refractory silica are presented. Ampacity test results are given for several wrapping methods and cable configurations. These test results show that the analytical method is reasonably accurate in determining the ampacity of wrapped cable. >

Ampac Campaign Contributions to Congress — A Correction

New England Journal of Medicine, 1995
To the Editor: We have become aware of two minor errors in the data we used in our article on contributions from the American Medical Political Action Committee (AMPAC) to members of Congress (Jan. 6, 1994, issue).1 The first error occurred when we counted a contribution to a Republican named Jones as a contribution to his Democratic opponent, also ...

The effect on ampacity for multiple cable crossing and mitigation to improve its ampacity

2016 IEEE International Conference on Power and Energy (PECon), 2016
At some point underground, there are high voltage cables and medium voltage cables that will be crossing each other. Many utilities do not consider or ignore the derating of ampacity caused by multiple cables crossing. In IEC 60287-3-3: Calculation of Power Ratings — Cables Crossing External Heat Sources, the ampacity rating for only two crossing ...

High Temperature Ampacity Model for Overhead Conductors

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 2002
A computer-based ampacity model that can predict the temperature of overhead conductors for temperatures as high as 250/spl deg/C has been developed. The model is a revision of a program that has been reliably used for approximately 20 years to calculate the transient ampacity of a wide variety of conductor designs. The accuracy of the program has been

Ampacity Application Considerations for Underground Cables

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2015
Underground power cables are routinely used in many types of electrical power systems. In many cases, unique considerations and analysis are required in determining the ampacity of underground cable applications. This paper examines these considerations in low- and medium-voltage electrical systems and provides examples of actual system applications.

Ampacity of cables in single covered trays

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1997
A mathematical thermal model is developed to predict the operating temperatures of cables in a single covered tray when there is load diversity in the power cable bundle. The model accommodates two different loading scenarios: one in which the heat is distributed evenly across the cable tray cross section; and one which concentrates the heavily loaded ...
