An application of high performance liquid chromatography to analysis of lipids in archaeological samples.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
Five samples from three different types of 1500-year-old Mediterranean amphorae, as well as from a contemporary oil lamp found in the same deposit, were analyzed for the presence of lipid residues. Each sample of finely ground amphorae powder weighed 1-2

Amphoras on Knidian amphoras

open access: yes, 2011
The article traces the motif of an amphora in the iconography of Knidian amphora stamps in an effort to date with greater precision a Knidian amphora with two stamped handles discovered in the excavations at Marina el-Alamein. In effect, the handleless amphora stamp on the container from Marina was assigned to Period VII and dates most probably to the ...

Whole‐Genome Sequencing in Galicia Reveals Male‐Biased Pre‐Islamic North African Ancestry, Subtle Population Structure, and Microgeographic Patterns of Disease Risk

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 24, 31 December 2025.
Whole genome sequencing of Galicians (GALOMICS; 17.2 M variants) reveals a genetic landscape consistent with broader Iberian patterns, characterized by only five clusters. Phylogenetic analyses indicate recent divergence and mild regional inbreeding.

Sediment‐Resistant Marine Antifouling Coating Based on Amphiphilic Copolymer Brushes Bearing Sulfobetaine and Isobornyl Pendants

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 12, Issue 23, December 8, 2025.
Amphiphilic copolymer coatings comprising sulfobetaine methacrylate (SBMA) and isobornyl methacrylate (IBMA) are reported, synthesized via SI‐ATRP, that resist biological fouling and sediment accumulation. The copolymer coating with an SBMA:IBMA feed molar ratio of 1:1 is optimal for reducing diatom adhesion and sediment adsorption.

Migratory Songbirds as Potential Ectozoochorous Protist Dispersal Vectors

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
We demonstrate that migratory songbirds carry diatoms (Bacillariophyta) in their plumage, revealing an unexpected avian–algal association. All seven bird specimens we examined contained diatoms—224 frustules representing 25 genera and 9 orders, primarily freshwater, benthic pennates—some retaining chloroplasts prior to digestion and mounting (implying ...

Premature aging of red wines: a matter of fatty acid oxidation? A review on lipid‐derived molecular markers and their possible precursors

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 105, Issue 15, Page 8315-8329, December 2025.
Abstract Premature aging of red wines (PremOx) is an emerging defect in red wines, related to the onset of cooked fruit, plum and dried figs nuances, as well as the loss of aging potential. This review is focussed on the contribute of lipid‐derived compounds, mainly originating from fatty acids oxidation, to this defect.
