Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Visual detection of isothermal nucleic acid amplification using pH-sensitive dyes

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2015
Nucleic acid amplification is the basis for many molecular diagnostic assays. In these cases, the amplification product must be detected and analyzed, typically requiring extended workflow time, sophisticated equipment, or both.

The Effects of Amplification Bias in Gravitational Microlensing Experiments

open access: yes, 1996
Although a source star is fainter than the detection limit imposed by crowding, it is still possible to detect an event if the star is located in the seeing disk of a bright star is and gravitationally amplified: amplification bias.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Impact of a combination sound therapy on tinnitus distress: an exploratory one-year longitudinal study

open access: yesFrontiers in Audiology and Otology
IntroductionCombination devices offering both amplification and sound therapy are commonly used in tinnitus management. However, there is insufficient evidence supporting the relationship between sound therapy and tinnitus outcomes. The aim of this study

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Deregulation and Shattering of Chromosomal Segments Containing Multiple Oncogenic Targets in the Pathogenesis of Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, Not Otherwise Specified (DLBCL, NOS)

open access: yesDNA
Diffuse large B cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (DLBCL, NOS) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Significant efforts have been focused on utilizing advanced genomic technologies to further subclassify DLBCL, NOS into clinically ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Simulation studies of parametric amplification in bio-inspired flow sensors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper the effect of parametric amplification in MEMS-based air-flow hairsensors is studied. With an AC-voltage controlled torsional stiffness the rotation of the hair can be influenced.

Amplification of localized body forces in channel flows of viscoelastic fluids

open access: yes, 2017
The study of nonmodal amplification of distributed body forces in channel flows of viscoelastic fluids has provided useful insights into the mechanisms that may govern the initial stages of transition to elastic turbulence.
