Current-feedback amplifiers versus voltage operational amplifiers
IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 2001This paper compares the main performance parameters of the current feedback opamp (CFOA) with those of a conventional voltage opamp (VOA). To make the comparison effective, a folded cascode VOA is considered (which is characterized by similar features and topology) and the same power consumption was assumed for both amplifiers.

Amplified spontaneous emission in Cassegrainian amplifiers
Applied Optics, 1987We consider all possible paths for amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in multipass laser amplifiers using a Cassegrainian telescope geometry. In particular, we study ASE which is reflected back into the medium off the telescope mirrors themselves. These ASE components are unavoidable in this amplifier geometry.

semiconductor optical amplifiers
SPIE Newsroom, 1990Semiconductor laser amplifiers have now proved their ability to improve the performance of single-mode fiber communication systems, at least in the laboratory stage. After a brief background review of optical amplification in communication systems, the principle of operation and main device characteristics of semiconductor optical amplifiers are ...

Amplifying on the PCR Amplifier
2010Kary Mullis is not a theorist, but is a chemist who won the 1993 Nobel Prize for inventing the PCR method—which is an amplifier for DNA. He is also an alumnus of Georgia Tech, where I am these days. Mullis is famous, perhaps our most famous graduate, but he does have a quirky personality. Perhaps to create a brilliant idea like PCR took such a thinker.
