Amplitude-smoothed BPOF and amplitude-smoothed amplitude-encoded BPOF
SPIE Proceedings, 1990In this paper smoothed binary phaseonly filtcr(ASBPOF) and amplitude smoothed amplitude encoded BPOF(ASAEBPOF) are presented. By computer simulation in the case of symmetrical and unsymmetrical characters it is concluded that with the BPOF and AEBPOF these filters sacrifice light efficiency due to the amplitudesmoothed factor it yield much better ...

Amplitude density of a finite amplitude wave
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1979A theoretical analysis of the effect of nonlinear propagation distortion on the amplitude density of a sample noise signal in a lossless medium is given. It is found that under certain general conditions the amplitude density prior to shock formation is unaffected by the distortion.

Amplitude-only versus amplitude-phase estimation
IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 1990The feasibility of transfer function estimation based on amplitude-only measurements is investigated, and this method is compared with the amplitude-phase (full complex spectrum) method. It is shown that the amplitude-only-based method is a feasible alternative to the full complex spectrum method when the minimum in-phase transfer function of the ...

Probabilistic Amplitude Shaping
Foundations and Trends® in Communications and Information Theory, 2023Summary: Probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) proposed in [\textit{G. Böcherer} et al., ``Bandwidth efficient and rate-matched low-density parity-check coded modulation'', IEEE Trans. Commun. 63, No. 12, 4651--4665 (2015; \url{doi:10.1109/TCOMM.2015.2494016})] is a practical architecture for combining non-uniform distributions on higher-order ...

Amplitude Discrimination in Noise
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1967The experiment was designed to test a general model of the discrimination process. The discriminability of a given amplitude difference (in decibels) was found to be virtually independent of both the signal-to-noise ratio and the frequency of the tones to be discriminated, provided that the ratio of signal energy to noise-power density is sufficiently ...

Effect of Memory for Amplitude on Amplitude Discrimination
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1959A two alternative forced-choice experiment (2 AFC) in which the observer is asked to state which is the larger of two segments of tones presented sequentially in time, is analyzed as an experiment involving only amplitude memory. Frequency, phase, starting time, and duration information is provided each trial by the stimuli.

Amplitude-modulated interferometry
Optics Letters, 1990Specific modulating procedures of the interfering amplitudes in a double-beam interferometer lead to highprecision measurements and insensitivity to changes in reflectivity. The performance of such an interferometer is superior to that of a phase-shifting interferometer because the modulated quantity is the amplitude rather than the phase, which is the
