The Value of Seismic Amplitude Information

EAGE Conference on Petroleum Geostatistics, 2007
Gathering the right kind and amount of information is crucial in any decision making process. Estimating the value of information is therefore important for acquiring the right kind of data. We present a statistical model for valuing information in the context of geostatistical decision-making relevant to reservoir development.

Information for Mandarin tones in the amplitude contour and in brief segments

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1990
The four tones of Mandarin Chinese are primarily realized by changes in fundamental frequency (F0) but duration and amplitude vary systematically as well. Whether the amplitude contour was sufficient for tone perception was examined by using signal-correlated noise stimuli (which retain only duration and amplitude) of the tones in /i/, each combination

Automated Tracking with Target Amplitude Information

1990 American Control Conference, 1990
In this paper we present a data association technique that utilizes the strength of target returns to improve tracking in a cluttered environment. The approach generalizes the Probabilistic Data Association Filter (PDAF) to include the target amplitude, a feature which is available from the detection system that provides measurements for tracking.

Range Information and Amplitude-phase Information for Multi-carrier Radar Systems

2019 International Conference on Computer, Information and Telecommunication Systems (CITS), 2019
This paper considers the problem of information extraction for single target with complex additive white Gaussian noise in general multi-carrier radar systems based on the range information (RI) and amplitude-phase information (API). First, the total information of the systems can be formulated as the mutual information (MI) between the receiving ...

Amplitude requirements, visual information, and the spatial structure of movement

Experimental Brain Research, 2012
Studies using a variety of experimental tasks have established that when humans repeatedly produce an action, the amount of variability in system output is distributed across a range of time scales or frequencies. A finding of particular interest is that fluctuations in the output of cognitive systems are the highest at the lowest frequencies with ...

Encoding amplitude information onto phase-only filters

Applied Optics, 1999
We report a new, to our knowledge, technique for encoding amplitude information onto a phase-only filter with a single liquid-crystal spatial light modulator. In our approach we spatially modulate the phase that is encoded onto the filter and, consequently, spatially modify the diffraction efficiency of the filter. Light that is not diffracted into the

Broadband and Programmable Amplitude-Phase-Joint-Coding Information Metasurface

ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2022
Information metasurfaces have attracted much attention in recent years due to the capability to link the physical world and information science. However, most of the current information metasurfaces are either phase-only coding or amplitude-only coding, limiting their functions and applications.

Recovery of singularities from amplitude information

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1997
Let V(x) denote a potential in the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation, without bound states, for which (1) V(x)=0 for x<0 and (2) V(x) is piecewise continuous with adequate decay as x goes to infinity. We are interested in the problem of determining V given the reflectivity r(k)=|R(k)|, where R is the usual left-hand reflection coefficient ...

Predetection Fusion With Doppler Measurements and Amplitude Information

IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering, 2012
In previous work, we discussed an efficient form of predetection fusion for use as a preprocessing step before tracking on data sets with large sensor networks of low-quality sensors, with particular eye to application in multistatic sonar. This 2-D version (position measurements only) was compared against an optimal (slow) technique.

Data Association Method Comparison with Amplitude Information

IET International Radar Conference 2013, 2013
In addition to the spatial location information of the target obtained by the sensors for data association, other information about the target features is also included. Two already known methods which applied amplitude information to data association, amplitude likelihood function method and amplitude state vector method, and their performance are ...
