Universality in surface growth: Scaling functions and amplitude ratios

Physical Review A, 1992
A scaling analysis of a variety of nonlinear equations for surface growth is presented. It predicts the existence of universal scaling functions and amplitude ratios for the surface width w(L,t) on length scale L at time t and for the height-difference correlation function G(x,t).

A Maximal Afterpulse Amplitude-to-Main Pulse Amplitude Ratio in a Photomultiplier Tube

Instruments and Experimental Techniques, 2002
An amplitude dependence of afterpulses caused by an ion feedback on the main pulse amplitudes in a photomultiplier tube is studied. It has been found that a maximal afterpulse amplitude-to-maximal main pulse amplitude ratio is inversely proportional to the main pulse amplitude.

Universal amplitude ratios for scaling corrections on Ising strips

Physical Review E, 2011
We study the (analytic) finite-size corrections in the Ising model on the strip with free, fixed (++), and mixed boundary conditions. For fixed (++) boundary conditions, the spins are fixed to the same values on two sides of the strip. We find that subdominant finite-size corrections to scaling should be to the form a(p)/N(2p-1) for the free energy f(N)

Observed and calculated short-periodPKIKP/PKP1 amplitude ratio

Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica, 1989
The ratio of short-period PKIKP and PKP1 amplitudes of deep earthquakes in the Tonga region observed at the seismological station KHC is compared with the theoretical ratio computed for the probable geometry of the Tonga subduction zone and the Preliminary Reference Earth Model.

Inversions for attenuation profiles using modal amplitude ratios

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2004
Data from the ASIAEX East China Sea (ECS) experiment is used to estimate sediment attenuation coefficients as a function of frequency and depth. Modal amplitude ratios for modes in the frequency range 10 to 300 Hz are used to obtain the attenuation profiles. These inversions use broad-band data from wide band sources (WBSs) deployed in the area.

New Monte Carlo Estimates of critical interfacial amplitudes and the universality of amplitude ratios

Physical Review Letters, 1988

Bitwise Log-Likelihood Ratios for Quadrature Amplitude Modulations

IEEE Communications Letters, 2015
For an increase in spectral efficiency and improvement of error performance, a high-order modulation and an advanced channel coding scheme are jointly used for many digital communication systems. In this paper, a new and simple method for calculating bitwise log-likelihood ratios which are required for soft decision decoding is proposed for $M ...

Amplitude ratios of several groups of variable stars

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1970
The observed positions of classical cepheids, RR Lyrae stars, δ Scuti stars and dwarf cepheids in the logg-logTe plane form a continuous sequence, thereby defining the location of maximum instability. The amplitude ratio (the ratio of radial velocity amplitude to light amplitude) is small for variables at the upper end of the instability strip and ...

A simple analogue method of amplitude ratio measurement

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1969
A new analogue method is described, which permits amplitude ratio measurement of two electric signals of the same frequency. Direct ratio reading is assured.
