Healthcare costs of managing MAFLD are mostly driven by hospitalisation and advanced fibrosis: cost‐analysis from a tertiary‐care, multi‐disciplinary MAFLD clinic

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Aims Patients with metabolic (dysfunction)‐associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) are frequently multimorbid, putting upward pressure on healthcare costs compared to other liver diseases. Pre‐implementation safety evaluation of an AI decision‐support system for surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis

open access: yesInternal Medicine Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Large language models (LLMs) show potential to support antimicrobial prescribing but require simulation‐based, institution‐specific safety evaluation prior to any consideration of clinical use. In Australia, antimicrobial prescribing represents a high‐risk domain for digital decision‐support systems due to patient safety and ...

Plantar fascia thickness in type 1 diabetes mellitus patients: Clinical associations and metabolic correlates

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Ultrasound‐measured plantar fascia thickness is associated with microvascular complications and glycemic control in individuals with type 1 diabetes, suggesting PFT as a potential non‐invasive tool for clinical assessment. In addition, improved thickness values were observed in patients using automated insulin delivery systems.

Body mass index and peripheral neuropathy across the glucose tolerance spectrum in Japanese adults

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Graphical illustration of participant classification by metabolic status (normoglycemic, IGT, type 2 diabetes mellitus) and BMI with key neurological and metabolic assessments. In Japanese adults, obesity at the Japanese BMI threshold (≥25 kg/m2) is associated with adverse metabolic profiles across all glycemic states but exacerbates peripheral ...

Sudomotor dysfunction in people with type 1 diabetes with and without clinical peripheral neuropathy: A study from Pune, India

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims It is appreciated that current screening tools for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) often fail to detect early disease. Sudomotor (sweat gland) dysfunction, among the earliest manifestations of DPN, can be measured objectively by the SUDOSCAN® device. We compared SUDOSCAN® with conventional validated screening (Michigan
