Diagnostic Amsel criteria compared standardized method of Gram stain for the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis

International Congress Series, 2004
Two well-described diagnostic methods for bacterial vaginosis are clinical or wet-smear diagnosis (Amsel criteria) and Gram stain diagnosis (Nugent criteria). Our objective was to compare diagnostic Amsel criteria and Gram stain diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis.

Comparison of Amsel criteria, Nugent score, culture and two CE-IVD marked quantitative real-time PCRs with microbiota analysis for the diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 2019
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common gynaecological condition. Diagnosis of BV is typically based on Amsel criteria, Nugent score and/or bacterial culture. In this study, these conventional methods and two CE-IVD marked quantitative real-time (q)PCR assays were compared with microbiota analysis for the diagnosis of BV.

Utility of Amsel criteria, Nugent score, and quantitative PCR for Gardnerella vaginalis, Mycoplasma hominis, and Lactobacillus spp. for diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis in human immunodeficiency virus-infected women.

Journal of clinical microbiology, 2005
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a clinical syndrome presenting with a malodorous vaginal discharge and increased vaginal pH. Diagnosis has been based on clinical Amsel criteria and direct Gram stain of vaginal secretions. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected participants in the Women's Interagency HIV Study contributed cervicovaginal lavage (CVL ...

Multiplex PCR, Clinical Amsel’s Criteria and Microbiological Nugent Score for Diagnosis of Bacterial Vaginosis and Detection of its Virulence

Egyptian Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2021
Background: bacterial vaginosis is universally the commonest vaginal infection in reproductively active females. It causes major consequences as preterm labor, predisposing to sexually-transmitted infections and HIV infections. Although it is a public health concern, no one knows exactly its pathogenesis when some say that it is just disturbance in ...
