Three years data of sea surface temperature (SST) from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for EOS (AMSR-E) aboard the NASA/AQUA are available since July 2002. SST measurement by passive microwave radiometers has advantages of observation capability through clouds, and of easy handling due to small data volume.

Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR) is a satellite-borne microwave radiometer, which is developed by the NASDA of Japan. AMSR will be loaded on the ADEOS-II satellite. A local observation time of ADEOS-II is at 10:30 AM. A similar sensor, called as AMSR-E, is also developed by the NASDA.
