SST measurement by passive microwave radiometers has advantages of observation capability through clouds, and of easy handling due to small data volume.

IGARSS 2000. IEEE 2000 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Taking the Pulse of the Planet: The Role of Remote Sensing in Managing the Environment. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37120), 2002Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR) is a satellite-borne microwave radiometer, which is developed by the NASDA of Japan. AMSR will be loaded on the ADEOS-II satellite. A local observation time of ADEOS-II is at 10:30 AM. A similar sensor, called as AMSR-E, is also developed by the NASDA.
