Mono‐ IrIII versus heterobimetallic IrIII‐AuI complexes for circularly polarized luminescence

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Accepted Article.
Fundamental rationalization of the structural–circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) activity relationship is a challenging task. Herein, a pair of enantiopure, heterobimetallic IrIII–AuI complexes IrAu‐4 featuring chirality‐at‐metal is thoroughly investigated by means of spectroscopical and computational techniques, also including spin‐orbital ...

The Nature and Stability of Transition Metal‐Anchored Nitrogen‐Doped Graphene Single‐Atom Catalysts

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Our quantum chemical analyses of the bonding trends between period 4 transition metals and nitrogen‐doped graphene support reveal that the metal–support interaction strengthens from Ti to Ni, then weakens from Ni to Zn. This trend arises from changes in bonding interaction between the transition metals’ 3dxy orbital and nitrogen lone pairs of the ...

Understanding the SN2 Versus E2 Competition

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
We provide an intuitive framework rooted in quantitative molecular orbital theory to understand the factors that govern the competition between the SN2 and E2 reaction pathways. The guiding concepts are: characteristic distortivity, transition state acidity, intrinsic nucleophilicity, and apparent nucleophilicity.

Discrete Heterotrimetallic Assemblies Based on Rod‐Shaped FeII‐Metalloligands and a ZnII‐Porphyrin/RuII‐Metallacycle

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Accepted Article.
An efficient strategy for the preparation of heterometallic discrete porphyrin assemblies, tuned both in dimensions and number of metal centers, is described. Five rod‐shaped di‐pyridyl FeII‐metalloligands, with varied length (1.5 – 3.2 nm), lateral substituents, and number of iron centers, were used to bridge two RuII‐metallacycles, made of two ...
