Seasonal food habits and prey selection of Amur tigers and Amur leopards in Northeast China [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractWe analyzed the scats of Amur tigers and Amur leopards, and examined their annual and seasonal food habits in Northeast China to comprehend their coexistence. Wild boar had the highest annual and seasonal consumption frequencies by the tigers, while both roe deer and sika deer were mostly preyed by the leopards annually.

Comparison of methods for estimating Amur tiger abundance [PDF]

open access: yesWildlife Biology, 2017
The Amur tiger Panthera tigris altaica is endangered throughout its range. Estimating abundance to monitor population trends is needed to judge success of conservation efforts. However, low densities and elusive behavior make precise estimates difficult to achieve.

Does presence of top predator improve forest birds' survival and diversity? An ecological case study assessing umbrella conservational impact of tiger using carrion

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
After hunting, predators tend to leave a large amount of carrion behind. It is widely reported that this resource is commonly used by various species in the ecosystem and is essential for the survival of scavengers, particularly in winter.

Spatio-temporal coexistence of sympatric mesocarnivores with a single apex carnivore in a fine-scale landscape

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation, 2020
Mesocarnivores uniquely and profoundly impact ecosystem function, structure, and dynamics. Sympatric species tend to spatially and temporally partition limited resources to facilitate coexistence.

Re-Identification of Amur Tigers by Combining Multi-branch and Multi-granularity Features

open access: yesJournal of Harbin University of Science and Technology, 2023
In order to solve the problem of insufficient detailed feature extraction in the re-identification of the Amur tiger, a re- identification model of the Amur tiger, CMM-NET, was proposed, which combined multi-branch and multi-granularity features.

Oldest known pantherine skull and evolution of the tiger

open access: yes, 2011
The tiger is one of the most iconic extant animals, and its origin and evolution have been intensely debated. Fossils attributable to extant pantherine species-lineages are less than 2 MYA and the earliest tiger fossils are from the Calabrian, Lower ...
