Transdisciplinary approach for planning the expansion of irrigation infrastructure at a regional scale

open access: yesWorld Water Policy, Volume 9, Issue 3, Page 371-387, August 2023., 2023

Prioritizing areas for ecological restoration: A participatory approach based on cost‐effectiveness

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 6, Page 1194-1205, June 2023., 2023
The cost‐effectiveness of restoration actions depends on the type of ecosystem and degradation state. Visualizing the outcomes of alternative restoration scenarios needs participatory prioritization maps based on financial costs and the potential supply of ecosystem services.

Applying fault tree analysis to biological invasions identifies optimal targets for effective biosecurity

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 10, Page 2553-2566, October 2022., 2022
While prevention has been long recognised as the most cost‐effective action against biological invasions, here we were able to quantify the reduction in invasion risk under a range of management scenarios. Optimising all management elements included in the FT reduced the overall probability of invasion by three orders of magnitude.

Evaluating the social and ecological effectiveness of partially protected marine areas

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 35, Issue 3, Page 921-932, June 2021., 2021
Abstract Marine protected areas (MPAs) are a primary tool for the stewardship, conservation, and restoration of marine ecosystems, yet 69% of global MPAs are only partially protected (i.e., are open to some form of fishing). Although fully protected areas have well‐documented outcomes, including increased fish diversity and biomass, the effectiveness ...
