Elemental ratios link environmental change and human health
Humans have fundamentally altered the cycling of multiple elements on a global scale. These changes impact the structure and function of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, with many implications for human health.

Hechos, eventos y la referencia [PDF]
In this article, we propose that it is possible to analyze the reference to facts and events starting from a linguistic analysis. With this purpose, we provide, first, an ontological characterization of facts and events based on a Platonist ontology ...

Electric Field Cycling of Physisorbed Antibodies Reduces Biolayer Polarization Dispersion
The effects of electric field cycling (EF‐cycling) on anti‐IgM layers physisorbed on Au, are studied. Physisorption of anti‐IgM lowers the Au work function, while a reduced dispersion of the sample's overall dipole moment, occurs after cycling, indicating that the electric field serves as an annealing process, guiding the physisorbed proteins toward a ...

Tunable Properties of Non‐Volatile Magnetic Mixtures on Different Surfaces
Surface nature‐dependent adhesion behavior has been observed in magnetic non‐volatile mixtures. As a result, a loss in magnetic properties and in the ability to be used as an extractant solvent has been observed on glass surface. For this reason, it is of great importance to take into account the material used when using these new solvents. Furthermore,

Recuerdos de observador y la mente perspectival: Acerca de Remembering from the Outside de Christopher McCarroll [PDF]
Observer memories, memories where one sees oneself in the remembered scene, from-the-outside, are commonly considered less accurate and genuine than visual field memories, memories in which the scene remembered is seen as one originally experienced it ...

Orthogonal polynomial bases in the mixed virtual element method
Abstract The use of orthonormal polynomial bases has been found to be efficient in preventing ill‐conditioning of the system matrix in the primal formulation of Virtual Element Methods (VEM) for high values of polynomial degree and in presence of badly‐shaped polygons.

Herbarium and field studies of nickel hyperaccumulator plants from ultramafic soils in Guatemala
A survey of herbarium specimens from ultramafic (serpentine) soils in Guatemala, using x‐ray fluorescence analysis, has revealed hyperaccumulation of nickel in several species, not previously known to accumulate metals. The figure shows the geographic distribution of Ni‐hyperaccumulating plants in Arachnothryx linguiformis (Rubiaceae), and the ...

Structural changes in lipid-free humic acids during composting of sewage sludge [PDF]
Structural changes in humic acids (HAs), extracted after lipid removal from sewage sludge during composting, were investigated using various chemical methods (elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance

Despite the critical role of biological soil crusts (biocrusts) in dryland C and N cycles, little is known about how biocrust‐derived C and N move into the soil. This study reveals how biocrusts facilitate the downward movement of C and N and drive the formation of mineral‐associated organic matter in subcrust soils.
