Urban fuel demand in Ethiopia: an almost‐ideal demand system approach♣ [PDF]
This paper investigates the opportunities for reducing the pressure of urban centers on rural forest areas, using a dataset of 350 urban households in Tigrai in northern Ethiopia. We applied an almost‐ideal demand system to fuels. The results suggest that reducing the pressure of urban centers on local forests cannot be seen in isolation from broader ...

RECOVERING RISKY TECHNOLOGIES USING THE ALMOST IDEAL DEMAND SYSTEM: AN APPLICATION TO U.S. BANKING [PDF]
The authors argue for a shift in the focus of modeling production from the traditional assumptions of profit maximization and cost minimization to a more general assumption of managerial utility maximization that can incorporate risk incentives into the analysis of production and recover value-maximizing technologies.

An error corrected almost ideal demand system for major cereals in Kenya [PDF]
AbstractDespite significant progress in theory and empirical methods, the analysis of food consumption patterns in developing countries, particularly those in Sub‐Saharan Africa (SSA), has received very limited attention. An attempt is made in this article to estimate an Error Corrected Almost Ideal Demand System for four major cereals consumed in ...

MEASURING AN ALMOST IDEAL DEMAND SYSTEM WITH GENERALIZED FLEXIBLE LEAST SQUARES [PDF]
Structural change in meat consumption has been the focus of many researchers during the last two decades. In this paper we develop a dynamic linear Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) model from a cost function that allows for time varying parameters. This model is consistent with inertia in the parameters of the cost and indirect utility functions.

Characteristics of demand for antibiotics in primary care: an almost ideal demand system approach [PDF]
We model demand for different classes of antibiotics used for respiratory infections in outpatient care using a linear approximate almost ideal demand system approach. We compute elasticities to socioeconomic determinants of consumption and own- and cross- price elasticities between different groups of antibiotics.

Fish demand in Egypt: An analysis using Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS)
Egypt has a vast water area of about 13 million acres, and the amount of fish production capacity reached 1.82 million t in 2017. This represents an increase by 6.8% compared with 2016; however, the increase in population growth rate has caused a shortage in meeting consumers’ needs by about 15.47%.

An error correction almost ideal demand system for meat in Greece [PDF]
This paper represents a dynamic specification of the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) based on recent developments on cointegration techniques and error correction models. Based on Greek meat consumption data over the period 1958-1993, it was found that the proposed formulation performs well on both theoretical and statistical grounds, as the ...

DEMAND FOR FOOD IN GREECE: AN ALMOST IDEAL DEMAND SYSTEM ANALYSIS
This paper provides an analysis of food demand in Greece using the Almost Ideal Demand System and annual food expenditure data for the period 1950–1986. The focus is on the estimation of a complete matrix of price and income elasticities for the various food commodity groups for Greece.

Modelling tourism demand for South Africa: An almost ideal demand system approach
This paper models tourism demand for South Africa from the UK and the USA, using an almost ideal demand system. An error-correction almost ideal demand system (EC-AIDS) is applied to quantify the responsiveness of UK and USA tourism demand for South Africa, relative to changes in tourism prices and expenditure or income.

Consumer behaviour in Greece: an application of the almost ideal demand system
This paper estimates the Almost Ideal Demand System on Greek data for the period 1960–1986 for seven commodity groups. The results conform with earlier research findings that the homogeneity and symmetry restrictions of demand theory are broadly inconsistent with the data. The imposition of the restrictions leads to substantial changes in the estimated
