Estimation of food demand in Turkey: method of an almost ideal demand system
Quality & Quantity, 2011In this study, data of the household income and consumption expenditure surveys conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute for 1994 and 2003 years were used; income, price, and cross price elasticities under six aggregated product groups were estimated within the framework of the an almost ideal demand system approach for food expenditures; and ...

An Inverse Almost Ideal Demand System for Mussels in Europe
Marine Resource Economics, 2012Abstract This study used monthly data on ex-farm prices and quantities of mussels from five major mussel-producing countries in Europe to estimate a nonlinear Inverse Almost Ideal Demand System (IAIDS). The model specification fits well with monthly data from 2002–2008. Uncompensated own-price flexibilities for farmed mussels from Spain, France, Italy,

Time-varying coefficients in the Almost Ideal Demand System: an empirical appraisal
European Review of Agriculture Economics, 2003This paper provides a generalisation of the structural time series version of the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) that allows for time-varying coefficients (TVC/AIDS) in the presence of cross-equation constraints. An empirical appraisal of the TVC/AIDS is made using a dynamic AIDS with trending intercept as the baseline model with a data set from the

Estimating an Almost Ideal Demand System Model for Meats in Iran
2013This paper presents a dynamic form of the almost ideal demand system (AIDS). The static AIDS model was employed to determine long-run equilibrium model and represents the short-run dynamics by an error correction mechanism. This estimation procedure is applied to estimate three kinds of popular meats (red meat, chicken and fish) demand function in Iran.

An almost ideal demand system for alcoholic beverages in British Columbia
Empirical Economics, 1992An almost ideal demand system for alcoholic beverages in British Columbia is estimated based on five beverage categories. Estimates of the model unrestricted and restricted to satisfy homogeneity and symmetry are presented. The restrictions are tested: as is common in applied demand analysis a number of rejections are encountered, although within ...

FOOD DEMAND IN SPAIN: AN APPLICATION OF THE ALMOST IDEAL SYSTEM
Journal of Agricultural Economics, 1994This paper provides an analysis of food demand in Spain for the period 1964–1989 estimating the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) with annual time‐series of food expenditures divided into six categories. A dynamic version of the model incorporating habit effects captures the behaviour of the Spanish food consumer over the period investigated.

ESTIMATION OF DEMAND FUNCTIONS FOR WETLANDS - BASED RECREATION USING AN ALMOST IDEAL DEMAND SYSTEM
1989The determinants of demand for waterfowl hunting, freshwater fishing, and saltwater fishing were examined using an Almost Ideal Demand System. Own-price elasticities indicate that demand for these activities are relatively price inelastic. Cross-price elasticities suggest that these activities are complements.
