From Waste to Value: A Bibliometric‐Systematic Review of Biogas and Biomethane Business Literature

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In response to escalating environmental challenges and the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions, the agri‐food sector is increasingly exploring business models grounded in circular economy (CE) principles based on the production of biogas and biomethane.

EFFECT of digestates derived from the fermentation of maize-legume intercropped culture and maize monoculture application on soil properties and plant biomass production

open access: yesChemical and Biological Technologies in Agriculture, 2022
Background The use of maize-legume mixed culture to produce renewable energy and fertilizers by anaerobic fermentation (AD), while respecting soil quality is a favourable approach in sustainable farming. This paper investigates how the substrate (silage)

Waste to Hydrogen: Transforming Food Waste Into Biohythane (Bio‐H2 + Bio‐CH4) in a Two‐Stage Reactor With the Aid of a Metal‐Ion Catalyst

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a two‐stage catalytic bioreactor system that converts real food waste into high‐purity biohydrogen and biohythane. In Stage‐1, an enriched Clostridium thermocellum culture combined with Ni2+─Fe2+ bimetallic catalysis enhances hydrolysis efficiency and hydrogenase activity, resulting in a 77% increase in H2 yield and 75.8% purity

Improving Post-Anaerobic Digestion of Full-Scale Anaerobic Digestate Using Free Ammonia Treatment

open access: yes, 2019
Post-anaerobic digestion of full-scale anaerobic digestate (AD) is used in enhancing sludge reduction in some sewage treatment plants (STPs). However, the AD degradation is usually inhibited due to its slow hydrolysis rate and low degradability.

Amenity grassland quality following anaerobic digestate application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Anaerobic digestate applied to land is a source of readily available nutrients, yet there is a paucity of knowledge regarding effects on grassland. To address this, we investigated the viability of using digestate as an alternative to mineral fertilizer

Nutrient composition and heavy metal accumulation in water hyacinth [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms] and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes L.) from the Dande River, Nepal: Implications for use as alternative feed resources

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The proliferation of invasive aquatic macrophytes poses a significant ecological challenge globally, while many tropical regions face chronic shortages of affordable livestock feed. This study addresses this dual problem by assessing two invasive species, water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes ...

Testing the Impact of Waste from Anaerobic Digestion (Enriched with an Organic Component) on the Quality of Agricultural Land

open access: yesGeoScience Engineering, 2017
Waste from anaerobic digestion is considered as a mineral fertilizer and it is usually applied to agricultural land. The aim of our attempt was to enrich this waste from anaerobic digestion (digestate) with an organic component (in our case represented ...

Effects of Combined Application of Solid Pyrolysis Products and Digestate on Selected Soil Properties of Arenosol and Plant Growth and Composition in Laboratory Experiments

open access: yesAgronomy, 2022
Biochars as soil amendments have been reported to improve soil properties and may have an important role in the mitigation of the consequences of climate change. As a novel approach, this study examines whether biochar and digestate co-application can be

How AI and Digital Technologies Can Enhance Sustainable Livestock Manure Management: An Overview From Treatment to Distribution

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sustainable livestock manure management sits at the nexus of climate, nutrient circularity and water quality. This review explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital platforms are used across four management stages, that is, treatment, storage, valorisation and distribution, and figures out where integration fails to deliver ...
