Emergent behaviour in a chlorophenol-mineralising three-tiered microbial `food web' [PDF]
Anaerobic digestion enables the water industry to treat wastewater as a resource for generating energy and recovering valuable by-products. The complexity of the anaerobic digestion process has motivated the development of complex models. However, this complexity makes it intractable to pin-point stability and emergent behaviour.

This study proposes a two‐step biological strategy to synergistically enhance the three stages of anaerobic digestion, ultimately eliminating the extreme ammonia inhibition and breaking through the inefficiency bottleneck of conventional biotechnology.

Nutrients and biomass dynamics in photo-sequencing batch reactors treating wastewater with high nutrients loadings [PDF]
The present study investigates different strategies for the treatment of a mixture of digestate from an anaerobic digester diluted and secondary effluent from a high rate algal pond. To this aim, the performance of two photo-sequencing batch reactors (PSBRs) operated at high nutrients loading rates and different solids retention times (SRTs) were ...

Traditional Iranian butter samples were collected from different parts of Iran and were screened for the presence of Lactic acid bacteria. The selected LAB were identified to species level by biphasic approach. The ability of selected LAB to lower the cholestrol both in vitro and in situ was then determined.

Isolation and purification of Tartary buckwheat polysaccharides and their effect on gut microbiota
The Tartary buckwheat polysaccharides present in different fractions had specific probiotic effects. The composition of gut microbiota was significantly altered by adding Tartary buckwheat polysaccharides during fecal fermentation. Tartary buckwheat can provide specific dietary polysaccharide sources to modulate and maintain gut microbiota diversity ...

The Microbiology of Anaerobic Digesters
The organic content of sludges and soluble wastes can be reduced by controlled bacterial activity. If the bacterial activity is anaerobic, the reduction in organic contentis achieved through sludge digestion. If the bacterial activity is aerobic, the reduction in organic content is achieved through sludge stabilization.Anaerobic digesters having ...
